Dear Canary owners,

My girlfriend and I lost our canary this morning. He was our first pet we got together. ;( We are not sure why he died. He didn't seem to show symptons?? We had him for just over 5 years and we got him from a friend when he was about 2 years old therefore, he was about 7 years old. We took good care of him and our female canary very well. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you.

It could have been many things. Unfortunately it can be very hard to tell if a bird is ill. The biggest symptoms you will see are diarrhea or if its sitting on its perch with its plumage puffed out. Drafts can also cause a great deal of stress and the older the bird the more it would play a factor in a birds health.

There was probably something bad in the air. Miners used canaries to tell if there was a bit of chemical stuff in the air. The canaries would pass out first. That is probably what happened. I'm sorry about your little "Tweety".

10 years is the average lifespan of a canary...maybe your bird just wasn't supposed to live that long. I'm sorry for your loss. Maybe it got too cold?

specific, non-stick coating on cookware can kill a chicken. I forget approximately the temperature, yet its someplace around 535 ranges that it emits a gas this is possibility loose to people yet deadly to birds. notwithstanding cooking in an oven could no longer warmth a pan this warm, on the stovetop a pan gets lots greater warm than this temperature. My acceptable buddy has a cockatoo and has gotten rid of all non-stick cookware. Why take the possibility of killing your buddy?

a draft? Canary birds are super sensitive to drafts if you put them near a window/vent/door they can get a draft and die.

Yes i agree with the other person-he may not have been destined to live that ling. 5 years is a long time. his age length is obious evidence that you took great care of him- dont blame yourself, at least he wasnt in pain and lived a long life.
