There is nothing wrong with praying for our wants and needs.
God hears all the prayers of the righteous. But consider the following:
A Christian hunter is hunting bears in the woods. While walking up a hill he grabs a branch for leverage and it breaks sending the hunter tumbling down the hill, gun flying off elsewhere. When the hunter dusts himself off he sees a huge bear charging him. The hunter begins running, but trips and falls, landing on his knees. Seizing the opportunity, and being a good Christian, the hunter begins to pray, "Lord, make this bear a Christian."
The woods are quiet, the hunter turns and, Hallelujah! He sees the bear on his knees, paws together, praying! Listening, he hears the bear praying, "Father, bless this food to my body."
The key point here is that God answers prayers of the righteous, but the answer you get may not be the answer you wanted, BUT it will always be the right answer.
Prayer draws one nearer to God. Use the following pattern in all your prayers and you will see them answered: Adoration, Contrition, seeking God's will and not your own: Thanksgiving, and Supplication (ACTS) are the contents of prayers to God. See the llinks below for more information.

If God doesn't think it's beneficial to your growth as a Christian He probably won't give it to you, but I have seen God answer some very silly and seemingly undeserving prayers at times. He is like the Father that still lavishes His children with treats even though they don't always deserve it. It never hurts to ask God anything. The worst that can happen is that He will say no.

Yes. But then we really do not deserve anything for which we ask God.
The gifts are freely given, though.
Passages on asking and receiving can be difficult to teach. For
example: "How much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him!" (Matthew 7:11).
"'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future'" (Jeremiah 29:11).
These passages are full of truth, but those who preach a "prosperity" gospel have abused the scriptures to say God wants everyone to be financially rich and all we must do is ask or repeat some special prayer. Although this type of prosperity teaching receives a wide following, it is far from God's truth.
But God DOES want us to prosper:
A truly prosperous life begins by drawing near (and remaining near) to the presence of God.
And, He wants us to ask! "You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives"
(James 4:2-3). God has a plan to prosper us, but we often do not receive His blessings because we are asking to satisfy our own selfish desires or cover worldly fears.
"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). As we draw near to God, He places the desires on our heart which lead to true prosperity - then we must ask. It's in the asking, and in the expectation of the answer, that we exercise our faith and prove it to be real.

Yes, I have. And I got it! God wants you to communicate with him. Would you tell your parents about something you want and don't deserve? Don't they sometimes give it to you? Don't they still want to know. God is the perfect parent! Just talk! Tell him everything--wants, needs, things you want but don't deserve, rants, anything! He might say no, but he also might say yes.

75% of my prayers where concerns for my wife's
health, 15%, my family's safety and needs,10% where
stupid stuff, wasted air time. And the ones that I spent the
most time on went unaswered! The rest ? Gods blessing,
or good Luck?

Many times over. It is wiser to pray God's will be done, because He knows what is the best for us. He always gives us what we ask or something better. We do not know all the options. : )

Not yet.
Wisdom of prayers would make one know God provides and we are required to manage what we already have given us. Bad managers don't get much... from God.

God says, "He will supply all of our needs". He doesn't say, "I will supply all of your wants". However, He says, "If we are obedient He will give us the desires of our heart".
Do any of us deserve anything? I don't! But God is good and His mercy endures forever, even to me! I can't do anything to make Him love me more but even better than that, I can't do anything that will make Him love me any less!
