Wouldn't flight help them not get slaughtered by the millions. Seems they would "survive" nature a lot better if they could only fly, and they already have wings, so there half way there. Maybe chickens were created for us to eat, and that is why they are unable to fly. Just maybe.

They float, they don't fly (think of an eagel)

So I guess natural selection is just a crock of bull then? Because I though we evolved to better survive nature? So what is it demostication, or natural selection? Thanks for playing.

Chickens do fly...I have one.

I see what you're saying, but if they live by a tree they have protection. I've seen my chicken fly 20+ feet up into a tree. It's not pretty, but she can fly just good enough to get away from any predator on the ground.

The bird believed to have given rise to chickens, the Red Junglefowl, can fly short distances.

Once humans started breeding them, any inconvenient traits would be bred out.

We domesticated chickens is the reason they can not fly. They still can fly for short distances. The wild chicken and turkey can do much better.

When I lived in the country I raised Guineas. They fly. A few of mine used to roost in the trees because we had foxes and coyotes around. They aren't as dumb as they look. Turkeys can fly too.

Chickens do fly. They were domesticated from the wild because penguins are to unweildly.

How stupid.

Chickens lost the ability to fly - they descended from birds who could fly.

I guess anything that can't escape our guns, tranquillisers is meant for us to eat, right?

You theists... geez.

This world view isn't just ignorant - its disgusting and arrogant. Other creatures are here to survive, not so we can.

apparently you have never lived in the country and seen a chicken fly away from a predator.

Or maybe we breed them to eat? Its called artificial selection. I really don't think that there were wild chickens.
