Yes! Yes! Yes!........Finally a question and comment that I can agree with 100%. Thank You! A fundamentalist group, go terror in the name of Muslim faith, and the people in the U.S. automatically convict all Muslims and people of Islam. I don't get it either. Maybe its easier to accept the opinions of others, rather than coming up with your own.

If I let the media influence my beliefs, then I would believe that islam is a noble and peaceful religion like the liberally biased media states. I in fact have researched, read the quran and know enough about the barbaric history of Muslims to form the correct opinion that islam is not peaceful. Also I feel that islam is nothing but an insult to Our Lord and Savior.
May God Bless you.

Well put...........seeking knowledge is a virtue.
But there is the other question:
"How are people in the Middle East receiving information on other countries and other faiths?"
Yes, they too are lazy and letting other people tell them what to think.
Shouldn't it be the peaceful Muslims to spread the word to ones being mis-informed?
I think you need to gain some knowledge about :
yourself - others
your religion - other faiths
quit judging - you then won't be judged
quit boasting - you then will be heard
seek knowledge - a virtue for wisdom

People are lazy and they simply are not going to find out for themselves. That is why we wind up with GW Bush as our president. That said, there is one thing I don't understand. Why do Muslims remain basically silent on these issues? Why do we not see Muslims stand up in large numbers and condemn the people who are giving them a bad name? Terrorists seem to thrive in the Muslim culture. Why? Terrorists should be made to feel like the outsiders, yet they aren't. Why do foreign countries have to go into Muslim countries to address the situation? Why don't Muslims address the situation in their own culture? If there were Christian extremists in this country who committed terrorist acts they would not be allowed to thrive in our culture. They would be outcasts and would be unable to operate within the U.S. borders. Why is that not so for Muslim countries? If Muslims want outsiders to respect them, then they must make an effort. Until Muslims stand up in large numbers against the extremists they will have a bad name.

I have read some of the Islamic websites that are not really for westerner. Frankly, they scare the crap out of me way more than the watered down crap the media puts out.
Look the Muslims have a huge problem with the radical side right now. There are hundreds of thousands at Hamas rallies, not a few. There are large crowds in the streets of Iran after Friday prayers EVERY week saying they want to kill westerners. I could go on and on. You can deny that fact all day, but these guys are going to start WWIII if the moderate side doesn't do something to stop them.
I have only seen two Muslims that regularly speak out against it, and they both live behind bullet proof glass. You need to look at what is really happening and stop blaming those who notice.

OK. Here are some of the basic principles of Islam.
Slavery: The Quran not only allows slaves, but explicitly gives the slave-owner the right to have sex with them. There were no Muslim abolitionists because slavery is deeply ingrained in the religion. In fact, the Quran has more to say about enjoying sex with slaves than it does about several of the five pillars of Islam.
Mohammed owned and traded slaves. He commanded that women and children be taken as slaves in battle, and allowed them to be raped after capture. His followers continued the practice for centuries until it was forced to an end in most regions by European armies.
Unfortunately, slavery still persists in dark corners of the Muslim world today, such as Niger, the Sudan, and Mauritania. And, most tellingly, none of the articles by contemporary Muslim apologists (giving their religion retroactive credit for abolition) even bother to address the subject of modern slavery, much less condemn it.
Women's testimony is equal to half that of a man:
Get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her (2:282).

I know the media makes it look like all of the muslims hate the west and the muslims in general are violent people. But if the muslims would stop blowing themselves up maybe the media would focus on the good things they do. Just a thought.

As someone once said, "a picture is worth a thousand words."
If a group, a very large group(millions) I might add, has hijacked (no pun intended) your religion, then the onus is on you and others among you to set the truth straight. The silence of your "leaders" is deafening and that says more than any picture can.

I do have some understanding of Islam, and I know that much of this violence is contrary to its ideals. Just as the inquisition was contrary to the ideals of Christianity. The point is that Islam, like most religions, can easily be manipulated to incite hatred and violence. The fact that a manipulation must occur is of no consequence. Religion allows small groups of people to control many, and all too often the results are violence and death.

Why do you assume all people who are non-Muslim know nothing about Islam?
I know enough about Islam and what I know is the most important information a Christian should know -- Islam demeans the Lord Jesus Christ and calls him a prophet. THAT and that alone is enough to know that Islam is a false religion. I could get into other aspects of Islam that I don't like but the divinity of the Lord Jesus Christ is the utmost importance to this Christian.
So, stop assuming that everyone is lead around by the nose by the media, not all people are simple minded, it's an insult by those of you who say so.
Oh and yes, I've lived in a Muslim country I know first hand what Islam means, and no not all Muslims are terrorists and yes most true Muslims are peaceful.
But, they need to know that Jesus Christ is Lord!
