and ya think ya got it bad?...
... we lost the kneading paddle to ours, so now I have to do it by hand, leave it for a couple of hours and hand bake it.
it is really good fun sometimes though!!!!!!!!!!!

Most bread machine recipes list ingredients in the order you should add them to the machine. But you should know how big your machine is. Some make only a 1 lb. loaf. A larger recipe will make a big mess in a small machine. Likewise, if you set the machine for a large loaf with a small recipe, it won't turn out as well.
The basic rules, though... The liquids go in first and should be warm (I believe around 90 degrees F, if memory serves). Then fat goes in. Then add flour and most other dry ingredients. Make two shallow indentations into the flour for the yeast and sugar.
As with making bread by hand, you do have to adjust the liquid slightly for humidity. Most machines will beep early in the cycle. At that point, you should make sure the dough ball is smooth and round. There should be no dry flour. If there is, add water, 1t at a time, until it's smooth. It shouldn't be sticky. If it is, add flour 1t at a time until it's smooth.
There is a series of cookbooks called Electric Bread that you might find helpful. They differentiate between the different size loafs and give some insight into the chemistry of it all.

I have a sunbeam and the recipe is:
1 Cup + 2 Tbsp. Water
1 Tbsp. Butter or marg softened
2 Tbsp. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Non-fat dry milk powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
3 cups Bread flour
2 1/2 Tsp. Bread machine yeast
add water, butter, sugar, milk powder, salt and flour
add yeast make sure it doesn't come in contact with liquids.

Ok did you get the cup and spoon thingies with your machine?
The basic idea is you put your liquids in first, then the flour, then yeast and sugar etc. It's really important that your liquids are warm and your yeast doesn't come into contact with either the water or the sugar.

make and model wopuld be helpfull, i have morphy richards model 48220 series, here is the basic white loaf recipe in my instructions
large loaf
1 1/8 cup water
2 1/2 tbs milk powder
2 1/2 tbs butter
1 1/4 cup of sugar
1 1/4 tsp salt
3 cups sstrong white flour
1 1/4 tsp dry yeast
use setting 2 or 3 if you want a dark top on your bread, hope this helpsxx

They make mixes that are easy for starters. You could get Yeast (regular or special for machines), flour, and salt. That is all you need for a basic bread. However bread machines are not an exact science. Normal recipes can be used, but need tweeking.
