My dad is doing taxes for one of my friends. We thought it was just this year's taxes, but he gave us three years worth of documents and said he hasn't filed any of it. Does he have to file each year seperately, or can he simply add up all of the wages (it's just very simple part time job income) and file it all under 2006?

No, he CAN'T just add it all together and file it that way. Each year has to be filed separately, on the forms for that year. Forms for back years can be downloaded at irs.gov. Be sure to use the instructions for the right year also, since the numbers change every year.

If he has a refund coming for any of those years, he'll get it as long as it's not farther back than 2003 if they're filed by April 15 this year - you can only get refunds by filing within three years of the original due date for the return.

If he owes for any of those years, he'll owe interest, and penalties for late filing. This is true even if the total for the three years is a refund - each year is looked at separately.

each must be filed indiviually....also remember that if a refund is due the statute of limitations on claiming those refunds is 3 years.....you could file anyway and may get the money back after 3 but it is unlikely...the reason for the individual filing is because each tax year was reported separately

File each year separately.
