In the middle is a slot for a flat head screw driver will fit in you will need to turn this in clock wise till it starts takin slack out of the steering wheel to the pitman arm located below the box.thats if you already replaced the tie rod ends center link bar and so on.good luck, working in auto industry for 20 yrs plus

First we need to figure out where the slack is. Have some one turn the wheel back and forth while you look to see what is moving and what isn't. Wherever the parts that aren't moving are connected to the parts that are, that is where the slop is. It could be in the column, the rag joint (also called a flexible steering coupler), the tie rods, the steering box, bad kingpins, or even bad spindles, although that is pretty uncommon. My guess would be either the box, the rag joint or the tie rods.
First do the visual inspection. If the rag joint is bad, the steering shaft under the hood will flop back and forth between the box and the firewall. If this is the case, replace the rag joint. They are readily available in the HELP! section of your local auto parts store.
To adjust the box, on top of the steering box there is a plate, roughly square in shape. In the middle of this plate there is a bolt sticking straight out with a nut around it. The tip of the bolt has either a slot in it (like for a regular slotted screwdriver) or a hex slot in it (like for an allen wrench). The nut is used as a lock nut to hold that bolt in place. With the appropriate tool on the bolt, hold it in place and loosen the nut a little bit to allow for adjustment on the bolt. Tighten the bolt 1/8 of a turn, then lock it down with the nut. Then check the slop at the wheel, keeping an eye on binding. If it needs more adjustment, try it in 1/8 turn increments until either the slop is gone or you run out of adjustment. If it is at the max adjustment and still has slop in the box, the entire box will need replacing.
If the slop is in the tie rods, replace them and get the truck aligned.
Good luck, and I hope you find the problem.

You need two people to do this and you must know what to look for, and if its not the box have a pro look at it cause your life depends on it ok so be very sure what you tighten and or replace, to hard to tell you with no history on the vehicle and no one can with out seeing the vehicle and doing proper diagnoses OK, but if it is the box this is the way OK, !!There is an adjustment on the worm gear , its on top of the gear box its the only screw thing sticking out with a locking nut on it , must hold the center screw with a regular or standard screwdriver and the UN screw the nut and do not let the center turn with the nut, turn it in ward 1/4 inch re tighten the nut while holding the center from turning with the nut, check play and if need more go accordingly, if it has power steering you will need to check with the motor running, if standard gear box you DO need some play do not run it down and take all the play or cause you will not be able to drive the vehicle and it will ruin the box , you need about 3/4 to a inch of play left to right .
good luck ,

It's probably worn tie rod ends. They are cheap and fairly easy to replace.

Simple, you unscrew the base at the center, then after the steering wheel slips out, you can throw it out of the drivers side window and flick it out like a frizz-bee.
