He did give Lennox Lewis a tough go and he seemed to be the main man in the division before he retired due to injury. Can he restore a little luster to a very weak division and give it that shot in the arm that it needs? Or does his comeback really matter at all with the division being what it is?

Hey! A boxing forum! Cool! This is my first day on Yahoo answers and i love boxing! Man, Vitali's return can't be anything but good for a division that's so stale right now! I'd love to see him fight Sam Peter! Thanks for the good question dude!

This is a very interesting question. Props to you. You know what, I think Vitali's comeback has its advantages and disadvantages. You see, when he retired, he lessened the arguements of who is THE man in the heavyweight division. He made the division a little quiet.
Now that Vitali is coming back, he would draw more attention to the division and provide more competition- that's the up side. He will, however, make the already unclear weight division even murkier. Meaning, he will add more arguements as to who is the real champion. It will even be worse this time since there wasn't that much heavyweight contenders in the division when he left in 2005. For example, Briggs, Timur and Sultan Ibragimov, Oleg Maskaev, and Samuel Peter, weren't taken as seriously as we do now.
I just hope that Vitali's comeback will increase the value of the heavyweight picture. I want to see him in against Valuev.

I am excited that Vitali is coming back. He is a greater and more exciting fighter than any heavyweight boxer out there right now. I predict him to hold all the heavyweight titles within 2 years. First he will take Maskaev's title. Next will be the 7 ft freakshow's title. He will square off against his brother last. This will be a good fight but Vitali will walk away the victor. I only wish I could see him fight Lewis again. He deserved a rematch and the victory he undoubtably would have attained.

I don't really like the fact that Vitali is returning for one simple reason, unfairness. He is trying to strong arm a title shot over Samuel Peter who has won two title shot eliminators for a shot against Oleg Maskaev. Vitali feels that he desearves an immediate title shot, even though he has done nothing (due to his retirement) for the last two years. I also don't think it matters due to the lack luster performaces by all except Wladimir. The Divison is scrammbled, and I doubt that Vitali's return will make the situation any better.

It'll take a hell of a lot more than Vitali coming back to get the heavyweight division out of its current funk. It will either take a very flashy guy(think roy jones), a golden boy olympic champ everyone falls in love with(think De La Hoya), or someone to reign as undipusted champ and hold all 4 belts(the IBF, WBO, WBC, & WBA)

He's still the main man in the division. His little brother wobbled to a decision over Sam Peters and really who's out there.

In my opinion, it hurts the division. While I look forward to seeing Vitali back in action, I fully expect him to be successful and as long as both brothers Klitschko hold belts there will never be a unified heavyweight champion since they will never fight each other.

Vitali coming back would be great, but a Lennox and Vitali comback would be good for boxing.

It certainly can't hurt given the current state of affairs in the heavyweight division.
