My boyfriend had brownish colored urine last week .I told him to drink lots water and I cleared it up and was back normal yellow. Now last night he went and it was reddish brown. I looked it up but all I could find was Hep b, urinary tract infection, liver disease and kidney infection. He has no pain, burning or backache to go along with the brown urine.
I need some advice to give him to pacify him. We are taking a sample of it to the Dr. tomorrow morning, but he isn't being patent and wants to know a decent answer to give him (and me) peace of mind. He is driving me nuts!

The good thing is that you've already made that doctor's appointment.

Be sure the urine sample you take is one from where it appears to be the darkest.

Any changes in urine color, or the presence of an abnormal urine color that cannot be linked to the consumption of a food or drug, should be reported to the doctor. This is particularly important if it happens for longer than a day or two, or if there are repeated episodes.

Do you also notice any kind of offensive or different smell from the urine? the doctor would also like to know this.

Pink, red, or smoky brown urine can be a side effect of a medication or may be caused by the recent consumption of beets, blackberries or certain food colorings.

If you've been searching online you're probably seeing a lot of the same information I am. The reason for the change in color could be the result of something as simple as something he ate to things more serious.
Only a doctor's examination and evaluation will get to the real cause.
Good luck!

In addition to bleeding from an infection, a cause of brown or tea colored urine is Rhabdomyelosis, basically the body's muscle tissue is dying at a rate too fast for the body to metabolize. Has you boyfriend been seriously dieting, seriously overheated, or on methamphetamines? (sorry, not a nice question, but had to ask) Another cause of this are 'statin' drugs like crestor for cholesterol. With no pain on urination, infection seems unlikely, but this kind of liver damage or rhabdomyelosis are rare without sufficient cause. Rust colored crystals, urea, can precipitate from the kidneys in severe dehydration, as well.

Hmm,

Sometimes you could get brown urine from taking medications like Rifampin which gives the urine a red color, or some foods like rhubarb. Generally, the most common cause of brown urine is asymptomatic kidney stones. Check the following link for other causes of bloody urine:

Urinalysis and urine culture may be done. Kidney stones may be one of the causes of hematuria (blood in the urine). Pain need not necessarily be felt.
Urinary calculi are solid particles in the urinary system. They may cause pain, nausea, vomiting, hematuria, and, possibly, chills and fever from secondary infection. Diagnosis is based on urinalysis and noncontrast spiral CT. Treatment is with analgesics, antibiotics for infection, and, sometimes, instrumentation, shock wave lithotripsy, or endoscopic surgery.
