actually its neither good nor bad for you hair. yes it might be better to go every other day without washing but if you have the right shampoo and conditioner you wont damage your hair. Try washing your scalp only and try not to really scrub the ends- then take conditioner (in the shower or spray in conditioner) and apply it to the ends. your scalp is obviously producing enough oil to accomodate the root, but once or twice a week condition the scalp. also make sure you arent using a lot of heavy products- light hair spray helps to soak up some of the greasies but too much product will just make it heavier. If you hair is long put it up in a cute bun or braid or take a small amount of texturizing cream only at the tips! and twist hair into cute funky loose dreds! if you hair is short like mine ( and yes i do wash it almost every day as well) you can get that sexy bed head look- i love garnier fructise shake effect- its light, keeps my hair full and is dry so its not adding to the oil.

Hi Ya
The more you wash your hair the greasier it will become as you are stimulating the oil glands. Here are a few tips to keep your hair less greasy
When you wash your hair, gently does it ,do not mas sarge the scalp this will sound strange but spread the shampoo on gently. The shampoo will grab the dirt and oil (no need to rub) when rinsed off.
Use a light conditioner.
Use a shampoo for oily hair.
Between shampoos use dry shampoo, which is a powder you sprinkle in your hair and brush through this soaks up the grease, talc works just as well.
This should help

To begin with, i used to have d same probs as u do, i even wore headbands/bandana's so that it wudnt show so much, there is a simple solution.Change ur shampoo n conditioner, perhaps it's too "rich" for ur hair type.Try not to use those that are "dry hair" coz it makes d hair even worse.I used to have oily roots n dry n brittle on the ends.So best pick one thats for "oily hair or Normal hair" also try not to apply ur conditioner to ur roots! Only at the ends, bcoz the conditioner can also cause ur scalp to be "too oily". Try a few good shampoo's in smaller bottles so that u dun need to buy in big bottles.Best to sample around different sorts of shampoo's & conditioners, am sure u'll noticed the difference in time.During winter, Head & Shoulders works for me,usual days i use Pantene.I had to go thru dozens of different brands b4 i found somethin that suits my hair! So good luck trying.

Also 1 more thing, i've noticed, if i tie my hair after a wash much, it tends to be oily even faster, especially if i have it in a ponytail or a bun for hrs!So perhaps lettin it "loose" more often wud cut the problem down? Hope i helped :o)

I'm VERY oily-haired too. My hair gets so oily & heavy just 24 hours after shampooing that I actually get a headache if I don't wash it again! The sad news is that other than daily washing with a clarifying shampoo specifically formulated for oily hair, there's really nothing you can do to stop the production and flow of oil (sebum) from your scalp. I've tried everything on the market and any and all homemade remedies. Nothing really works. I feel your pain! I once knew a woman who only washed her hair 1x every 2 weeks cuz it was so dry...if I ever did that my hair would be DRIPPING with oil! ugh. gross.

The problem is every time you wash your hair you secrete more oil to make up for what's lost.

When you get the opportunity and you're off work for a few days, let your hair go without washing for as long as you can bear it, then gradually cut down on how many times you wash it. You can buy a dry shampoo and spray that into your hair for a while...that gets rid of the greasy look.

You'll find then that your hair will begin to settle down.

Hope that helps

I have this same problem, but I notice that when I started dying my hair, the chemical used in the dye help to dry my hair folicles and I could actually go a day without washing my hair. It's only a temperary fix though, once my hair became accustomed to the chemicals it became oily once more and I've gone back to washing my hair everyday. But it isn't anywhere near as oily as it was when I was teenager.
Good Luck!!

nicely I even have oily hair and could wash it each morning and that i be attentive to it sucks! in case you sweat at nighttime ( despite in case you dont are conscious of it, that's oily via morning) additionally I even have observed that if i wash my hair with a clarifying shampoo or ones made for greasy hair it variety of feels to get oily quicker b/c you're stripping all the oil out of your hair so your scalp has a tendency to offer greater. attempt utilising a classic hair shampoo so which you dont strip all the good oils mandatory on your scalp and attempt to alter it. as for infant powder, basically works for blonde hair. I even have brown and that i appear as if I even have gray if i exploit infant powder. attempt out a dry shampoo between washing and that could desire to keep you an afternoon of washing. pay attention however some are nonetheless white powders and could seem basically like infant powder and those that are colored comes off brown on your palms. ojon makes an aeresole one and that i like it notwithstanding it clogs rather rather undesirable ( gotta deliver it back) and is relatively good smelling for the 1st hour. nonetheless on a quest for the acceptable dry shampoo! wish this helped. good success!

There isn't much you can do - i get fairly greasy hair as well - i just use shampoos for greasy hair - try and wash my hair as little as possible without it looking awful and another thing you can do if if you straighten [or curl etc.] your hair - try stopping that because i always find that it make y hair go greasy quicker than normal.

I know how you feel.

Recenlty discovered the new Sunsilk range which does shampoo for hair that gets greay quickly. It comes in a light blue bottle. The conditioner that comes with it comes in a light blue spray bottle and you just spray it on the length of your hair rather than the roots. It smells lovely and I really have noticed a difference.

When it's looking really bad I use Batiste which is a dry shampoo, that you just spray on the greasy areas and it absorbs the grease and makes it smell nice too.

Hope it works for you.

Shampoo. If you have straight, fine hair and an oily scalp, it won’t take long for the hair to become oily. You’ll probably want to wash your hair more often than three or four times a week. For people with really oily hair, washing once a day is not too extreme. In fact, it may help to leave the shampoo suds in your hair for a couple minutes before rinsing. But rinse the suds and residue completely from your hair.

Also, consider using a normal-to-mild shampoo, rather than the ones that promise to banish oil forever. If your scalp and hair are naturally oily, then trying to dry them out by washing all the time with a ruthless shampoo could potentially make matters worse; the human body has a way of trying to restore balance, and will kick its sebum secretion into high gear, resulting in more oily hair!

Conditioner? You probably won’t need conditioner if your hair is really oily. But those of you with longer hair may want to condition the further reaches of it. If you condition your hair, apply the conditioner to the hair well away from the roots. Because you want to limit the amount of hair that is conditioned, don't use a shampoo-conditioner combo in oily hair.

Hormones. Teenagers often suffer oily hair because their scalp is more sebaceous (it secretes more of the oily sebum). Teens with straight hair have more problems with oily hair than those with curly locks, but the real reason for their age-based oiliness is hormones. For this same reason, pharmaceuticals that affect our hormonal levels can also have an effect on the oil in our hair.

Nutrition. As with caring for dry hair, nutrition is essential. Greasy fast foods can have the same effect on your scalp as they do on your face – more oil secretion. Eat your fruits and veggies and eliminate some of fat and oil in your diet if you can. Don’t drink too much alcohol, either; pick up a glass of water instead. I know, I sound like your mother. But remember, she was only trying to keep your hair as vibrant and bouncy as possible.

Don't touch it! Consider your basic grooming habits. Do you brush your hair a lot or just use your hands to brush through it frequently? As it happens, using a comb too much and running your hands through your hair both contribute to oily hair. Brushing from roots to tips pushes the sebum all along your hair, while touching your hair all the time further burdens your hair with dirty oil from the hands. If your habit is hair-twirling, then kick the habit!
