I've always had nice luck with my Kodak Cameras. They tend to be fairly inexpensive. Is uppose it all depends on just how inexpensive you want to go.

i would not recommend going too cheap. My kids recieved cameras for Christmas from my parents. I don't know what they cost but they eat AAA batteries like they were food being served to starving people. Literally I put a new set of rechargeables in the other day and it took two photos before the low battery light came on. The batteries had just been charged.

Aslo the image quality on cheaper cameras tend to be lousy. You'll end up with a 640x480 low color image. For reference, most newer computers run at 1024x768 resolution. The maximum on screen size for these images will be about a 4th of the monitor view. On the other hand a $150-$200 camera will probably give you images at least 1024x768 in size, likely larger. This is where the Megapixels aspect comes in to play.

Also things to consider, what kind of image storage does it use? SD (secure digital) cards are cheap and pretty versatile and make a good choice. Compact flash is less so. Don't get something that uses a floppy disc (I doubt they still make these) or a CDR since you'll have to keep supplying new media to put photos on. Also consider the memory card in your budget. Most camera out of the box hold very few photos. A 512 meg SD card can be bought for 30 bucks at the right place and will give you the ability to take 200-300 photos on a decent camera before needing to clean them off.

Also power should be considered. Most cameras will use AA batteries but some have thier own special batteries. These specialized proprietary batteries can be very costly to replace. However they generally are only a considertion in high end dSLR cameras ($700+).

Seems to me that you've gotten some mixed and poor advice from the posters above.

There are a tremendous number of cameras on the market today in all price ranges. Given how competitive the industry is, you pretty much get what you pay for.

Canons and Sony's are terrific- but, you do pay a bit extra for their name. Panasonics and Fujis are also top notch, and a bit cheaper.

For a really high quality, low price digicam - one model stands out in my mind. The Fuji F20. Truly outstanding image quality and it's very responsive (quick). Also cheap from trusted on-line retailers at ~$170. You'll need to pick up an SD card as well for another ~$30. Was $200 in your budget?

IF you think this camera is too much it is soo worth it.Samsung S600, It is about 160.00 dollars. It is 15x zoom total and 3X zoom Optical which works very well. It also has great Features. I have had a Cannon Coolpix, Kodak 6.1 MP, and a HP Something, The best one I have had is my Samsung S600. I will send you the link so you can check it out. They also have a S630 which has a Auto Shake Reduction Feature which is really awesome with the 10X Digital Zoom. I will send the link for that too. It is a very amazing camera!

As you can see people always wanna tell you to get something that is overkill... while the Nikon D90 is a nice camera.... you know nothing about using a DSLR... then you would need lenses already since you want to shoot concerts... I recommend getting yourself one of the advance point and shoot cameras... Nikon, Canon and Olympus make excellent ones. If you feel the need for a DSLR get one of the entry level ones and invest in better lenses for it.

Advisable to go for Camera with at least 1 Mega Pixle.
Sony/Canon/Fuji are the preferred brand. in budget around 7000-10000 INR.

It's always ok to go to the pawn shop just as long as you get them to show you it works before you pay for it.
