I'm one myself and would assure you that they DO engage in a bit of door-knocking and standing on street corners dishing out leaflets, along with myriad other forms of out-reach. If lots of people would not object to home visits, however, I could spur my congregation on with that fact. Yet I suspect that the door-knocking market has been cornered by JWs and Mormons, and Christians don't want to be mistaken for them! They'd spend most of their time assuring suspicious house-holders that they were NOT JWs or Mormons, I guess. They also believe that if people want to hear a sermon, they would go to church. Do you think it's a good, or a bad thing that they respect the public's privacy and don't overtly try to prosyletise? Of course, my question applies to all and every Christian denomination, not just Presbyterians. Feel free to cast this net as wide as you like!

Mamasquirrel's point about atheists coming to our doors... they sit in the comfort of their homes and pester us via Yahoo! But at least we can choose to ignore or respond. Can't say fairer than that, can you? That's why I love Yahoo! It opens up a whole world of people who want to engage. And the bonus for JWs using Yahoo is that they can count their time too! Nice one!

OH YES! Come to my door.............As JW I would welcome you. We could study the bible for hours.
Witnessing is our joy and if nothing else, we could become friends.
It is God's will, that we talk about him. It was Jesus command that we go and make desciples. It would be fun to see just how much we agree on.

I grew up in The Presbyterian Denomination. When I was Saved, then Later Sanctified, and Filled with The Holy Spirit, they invited me to find another Church. The Presbyterian Church I knew wouldn't be doing Door to Door Evangelism, because they no longer Honor God's WORD.

I don't want anybody coming to my door and trying to convert me. I think it is insulting and disrespectful, no matter what religion you are. The whole "I'm right and you're wrong and I'm doing a GOOD THING by showing you are wrong you are" is sickening. I would agree with you when you say "that if people wanted to hear a sermon, they'd go to church." Otherwise, just leave people alone. They don't harass you.

I would rather go to church to hear a sermon. If I wanted a home visit, then I would request one. maybe you could make that an option? Hand out the leaflets with a contact number for more information....

I'm presbyterian myself, and would never go house to house like the JW's do. We were told to spread the word, and from what I understand everyone has already heard it. We can't make them believe. Our church is open to all, so if they want to hear, all they have to do is open the door.

I find it incredibly odd that Presbyterians would do any door-knocking. I look at proselytizing as belonging to the Arminian camp's sense of duty (meriting heaven?) rather than what Calvinists should see as a joy. I would be very interested in seeing any literature that they would have been handing out. To my knowledge, they don't subscribe to any "plan of salvation" as the Baptists do, either.

OK I have never had a Presby knock, but I would rather not.
I already ran the JWs off with a gun, and I hit on this teen age Baptist boy just so they wouldn't bother me. I guess if you guys want some too, bring it on.

No, I don't want anyone knocking on my door to sell me anything. This includes religion, sweepers etc. The only exception is for local school kids or youth groups working fund raisers.
Fact it, if I don't know you, why would I believe you about anything?

I have a no solicitors sign on my door because I DON'T WANT ANY SOLICITORS! That includes people selling their church, their pamplets, their God, whatever.
However, religious solicitors are always the one's who seem to be most willing to disrespect it, despite the threat of a $500 fine per incident.
Edit: Do atheists go to your church and extoll the benefits of atheism?

everybody who does that's no longer a real christian. basically cults flow door to door. genuine christians who believe in sane bible doctrines won't take place at your place till you invite them. We could invite you to church, yet we can't solicit you at 8am on a Saturday Morning. playstation : specific this is criminal notwithstanding this is annoying. in the event that they hassle you or refuse to stop coming when you ask them, there are criminal techniques so which you would be able to attend to the situation. basically because of the fact there is Freedom of religion does no longer mean that YOUR rights could desire to be violated for the sake of anothers freedom to connect a cult. understand? xoxo ?

let me ask you this.. would you want an athiest to come to your door trying to sell you their religion? I didn't think so. I personally am catholic, and I believe in god but I am not going to try to pressure you into believing what I believe..I don't care if you believe in christ, ant-christ, the messiah or if you believe you are the messiah..I just don't care..it doesn't bother me.. That is the great thing about having free will..you can believe what ever you want to!!! Just don't try to make other people believe what you do!!!!
