Yes, if it runs in the family, you are more likely to drink than not drink but it is still up to the individual. Its all about self control. If you can have a few beers or drinks and function then so be it but if you find yourself needing drinks, then that is where the problem starts. It is no ones fault but your own. You have to try to keep yourself under control. Just because it runs in the family, does not mean that you will be an alcoholic. Anyone can stop if they put their mind to it.

Your genes may affect you, but they don't control you. Ideally if alcoholism runs in the family, you would never start drinking in the first place, but it should never be used as an excuse. It is more then possible to quit. Go cold turkey, and get support. Try AA. Talk to your doctor.
Like I said, just because your family has alcoholism in it doesn't mean you have to be an alcoholic!

That depends on the love for the family. If the heart is unable to see right from wrong, then go in the bathroom and close the door, and talk to that person you see in mirror. And your question will be answered.
Two minutes ago I was talking to my sister about this subject. Shes' an alcoholic. She even stole a case of vodka. She says shes not. She hasn't talked to the person in the mirror.

I dont know if you are religous but i am, im very young but have myself battled alcoholism and depression and it has been passed down to me from every generation before me. The only thing that saved me is finally lturning my life around and living my life for god. i was afraid to sacrifice my partying social life and "best friends" that partied, but when i made the decision to stop drinking and start living for god, the most AMAZING things began to happen in my life. i dont hang out with the same people anymore and that was initially what i was afraid of. But i have met the coolest people who i know will keep me on the right track and I STILL know how to have a DAMN good time! If you let god work in your life, you will literally be carried through it and just know that everything happens for a reason and he has plans that you cant even begin to dream about. if I could do it...i promise you anyone can. ANYTHING is possible with god. i luckily figured this out before i had to go to rehab...it's the most simple and easy thing to do if you just open your heart.

Yeah it's called rehab or quitting drinking cold turkey. Addictions run heavily in my family too hence why I stay away from drugs and alcohol. If you look at your relatives that are affected from these addictions, look closer at them. Do you really want to be that unhappy and unhealthy?? If that doesn't make you stop drinking then maybe losing your life to liver disease will.

Yes,but my being around it more, you are more inclined to drink. You need to get away from it,and make up your own mind what you want to do.
Don't use your family as an excuse if you drink,it is up to you.
The next time you raise that glass into your mouth, blame yourself ,not your family.

just don't drink its that simple. unless you have no self control or will power. with everything available to humans to do. you would think that they could refrain from drinking alcohol smoking and taking drugs. three things out of infinity. just say no i want to live a clean life like when i was a child just do it now

Your family isn't putting a gun to your head to drink, you're responsable for your own acts.
