You are not supposed to, but it is a good custom everywhere, and it is nice if you prepare something for them. (Especially for the mother ;)). For everyone else - something small, but sweet, souvenirs, beautiful towels, a fountain pen for the father, a pretty picture for the aunty... Use your imagination.

In my humble opinion, it is better to present your gifts at the first meeting, not when you are going to leave.

Souvenirs during arrival is a very nice gestures. Get something that are not available in Brazil, ask your boyfriend for sure, but usually it's like this: when my friend comes from Germany to visit me, they brought me Blackforest Ham, my other friend from Paris bought me Eiffel miniature, something specific about the country not necessarily huge and expensive.

Maybe a tin of cookies? Homemade would be best, but sometimes it's hard to get thru airport customs..... Or, maybe wine or champaign if you know they will like it. Fresh flowers would work, too!

Just make it thoughtful. Don't stop at the airport shop on the way there and pick up some bagged peanuts!

Sure. What is appropriate depends on where they are from:

Rio - A basket of dates
Sao Paolo - A bottle of cologne
Manaus - Rat poison
Salvador - Cured ham
Curitiba - Mugs with your hosts' head shots
Fortaleza - 75 grs of Toblerone chocolate

Hope this helps.

Yes, that is appropriate whenever a house guess. But select something typical of your home area and not Brazil.

Yes, a small gift is appropriate. Try to find gifts in your country. It doesn't have to be expensive. They will adore you for your manners. South Americans are very generious people.
