Chickenpox is contagious from about 2 days before the rash appears and lasts until all the blisters are crusted over. A child with chickenpox should be kept out of school until all blisters have dried, usually about 1 week. you can still get chicken pox after being treated with the vaccine.

I have had chicken pox. The vaccene is not 100% effective. Chicken pox is contagus only for around 2 weeks befor the pox appear. They usually last 10 to 14 days. Best of luck to you and your child.

Any vaccination is not a cure-all for any type of disease. I don't care who you are, what vaccination you received if your exposed you still have the chance of getting the disease.
As for new pox to stop showing, it really depends on your child's immune system. This could be anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks after being put on an antibotic. However, I would say that if after 10 days of starting the antibotic there are still new pox showing up, I would definately get your child back into the doctor just to be sure that the infection was stalled by the drugs and not immune to them.

I had pox at 10 yrs. old and it lasted for about 2 weeks. I remember the breakouts stopping about a week into it. If your dr. hasn't told you already, oatmeal baths really help with the discomfort of itching all the time. Try to keep him/her from scratching~~it will leave scars (I have 2). Hope he/she gets to feeling better!!

Wow...how'd the varicella vaccination slip by??? LOL. It could be up to a week to a week and a few days. In the meantime all you can do is keep them comfortable. Lots of rest, oatmeal baths and calamine lotion are the good old standbys. Good luck!!!

Wow, it's been a long time. I remember that once the spots begin to turn to sores, they don't get fresh ones. It's a week long to 10 day illness.
