i have two dogs, rusty and lucky. rsuty is so well behaved, he never does anything wrong. he stares right at you and listens to you, and loves you so much! but last night i gave him a bit of chocolate icecream, and when he eats chocolate even a little bit, he lays diffferent, like lifeless almost, and i worry. so i wont give him the choc. anymore... but lucky! i remember being a kid and selling choc. candy bars at school, and i left them out one day and when i came home he had eaten every single one, and there were like 20! he's still kickin and he's like 12. i have never seen any evidence other than rusty lookin like he feels sick. i wonder if they just like it a whole bunch and thats why we dont give it to them, cause we're mean?

Like you I have had a dog it lots of chocolate and be fine, however........
In general many dogs get sick or die from eating chocolate. There is a substance in chocolate that is toxic to dogs,it affects their liver and kidneys, often causing diarrhoea ,vomiting, convulsions and sometimes death. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate is the most toxic even a small amount can be lethal .If your dog eats Chocolate PHONE THE VET ASAP.Sometimes they can get the dog to vomit it up if caught early enough ,other wise supportive measures are taken IV's, Anti -convalescents etc..
That said our small (20 pound) dog ate a 2 ounce piece of dark chocolate,we phoned the vet when we discovered it.The vet asked how she was doing as that was supposed to be a lethal amount,it was too late to do anything. However she had NO ill effects and was fine! This has happened twice1( She is a sneaky chocoholic) Both times we panic ed, and called the Vet,both times she had no ill effects. No -one has an explanation! I guess some dogs are immune or something,I wouldn't test it hower as it may have a cumlative effect.

I have to admit my dog I would give her some of whatever I was eating for years I did this she started having seizes once a month or so . I really didn't think chocolate had anything to do with it . I have stopped giving her chocolate and knock on wood no more seizures . I don't care how bad you wanna share your chocolate don't do it !?btw the seizers didn't happen around the time I feed her the chocolate it was sometimes weeks that's why I didn't think chocolate had anything to do with her seizers .

It has to do with the type of chocolate. A candy bar isn't good for them, just as people food isn't good for them, and might make them sick. But it's the bitter baker's chocolate that can be fatal if digested.

it truley depends on the size of the dog, kind of like alcohol. if a big person needs to consume larger amounts of alcohol to have the same effect that a smaller person would drinking less alcohol.
but yes, chocolate is bad for dogs

Chocolate can not only make them sick, but it can be fatal. Keep all chocolate up high enough or put away in a secure cupboard.

yes, and it can even kill them. Don't give him chocolate of any kind. If he lays weird now, it probably means he has a really upset stomach.
