i have only a week to study for the course. Do i have to know the whole manual in detail ? Can i safely concentrate on a few chapters ? it is a rather thick manual to know completely .....

You were supposed to get your manual 4 weeks before the course. You don't have to memorize it verbatim but you should be familiar with what it covers. The course itself will cover initial assessment, primary management, interventions, re-eval, stabilization and appropriate transfer to other units or facilities. You probably already have a solid foundation to work with...at least, I hope so. Be sure to touch on these points I've mentioned.
