I think I'd enjoy juicing on my own and it would cut out preservatives and additives in the other juices I buy at the store. I'm considering the Jack Lalanne model for $100. We have great Farmers Markets around here and I'm always buying produce. I know I'd use it daily and get my moneys worth- not to mention the health benefits. Is this a good investment?

I highly recommend a juicer, but not the jack lalanne one-its too hard to clean, despite the ad. I have juiced for 20+ years, and have gone through a lot of juicers. I recommend the Waring Juicer, about 30 dollars at walmart or kmart (I got my last one, new in the box, from a thrift store for 3 dollars-yeah) I juice three times a day, and love it. I juice everything. I love making fresh exoctic sprouts, like fenungreek, pea sprouts, clover, radish, etc and juicing them with fresh mint or herbs, ginger etc. On the days that I dont juice, I can feel a huge diff in my energy levels. Feel free to email me if you need more info.

edit: I make veggie stock with the leftover pulp-use it to flavor rice, lentils, etc. and make raw food bars out of it

You might not know this but it takes a ton of fruit to make juice. The machines are often hard to keep clean.
When you juice you lose the fiber and best parts of the produce you are juicing.
You will wind up spending a lot of money and very little juice.
So the answer is no

I have the Jack Lalane juicer, and it is a great product.
It's made very well and is easy to operate and cleans up nicely. It also has a recipe book for different juices, but I just use mine for carrot juice. If you are into fresh juices or are a health nut like me, I think it's a great investment.

Making juice is EXTREMELY expensive. Before you spring for the juicer I'd suggest you buy a bag of oranges, squeeze by hand (you'll not get as much juice, but you'll get an idea) and see just how many oranges it takes to get a glass.

Weigh this against the cost of 100% fresh juice even at the health food store and I think you'll see that the juicer actually costs you money.

Here is a site which compares juicers by price and also the features they have. I like the easy clean variety because even though it's healthy to buy organic fruit and veggies to juice if you have left over product in the juicer it contaminates your juice.
