i had all four of my wisdom teeth out yesterday and and i'm having some problems. first of all yesterday i was practically fine, and now my cheeks are swollen and i woke up to a shirt/pillow of blood! the salt water thing isnt working for me and i was supposed to stop wearing gaws yesterday night before i went to sleep. the only reason there in now is because my mouth is starting to taste like blood, and i heard that brushing your teeth causes dry sockets. i also tried the tea bag thing but i dont know if i did it right. i need some help 1st i need to know if the bleeding and swelling is normal and how to stop the bleeding.

thanks in advance!

Yes the swelling and the bleeding is normal. You need to ice your cheeks. 15 mins. on and 15 mins. off. And no brushing your teeth isnt going to give you dry sockets. Its going to prevent you from getting those holes infected and you dont want to do that, because that hurts more. just keep on doing the warm salt water thing. Good luck

Bleeding is normal, some more than others. Remember those are stitches in a moist tissue, unlike on your skin it'll take them longer to accomodate and do their job. Cold compresses such as ice packs on the outside and cool to the touch tea bags. teabags have to have been previously boiled and let cool. Also a rinse helps to get rid of bacteria that may accumulate. Take painkillers to ease the pain. And gauze is good to absorb the blood but continue replacing it because they get full and rough. If you should see no change in a couple of more days, than contact the orthodontist who performed the surgery.

First of all I want to tell you that a little blood mixed with a lot of saliva (spit) looks like a lot of blood. Try putting ice on your swollen cheek. But call your dentist he/she may want you to come in. Also you should rinse with warm salt water after everytinme you eat. Swelling should be normal for the first 24 hours only.

Sounds terrible. I'm not a professional, but did they say if you were aloud to suck on ice chips? This may stop the swelling some and maybe stop the bleeding. I'd call the dentist and tell him. This could be dangerous.

you need to call your dentist. now. you will probably need an antibiotic if he has not already given you one. but as for the bleeding, i do not think that is normal, mine didn't bleed after the first couple of hours. my husband got a dry socket, but his didn't bleed that much either.

call your oral surgeon. it is normal to bleed, you have 4 gaping holes in your jaw... but just to be safe, call.... it's why you pay them so much money! i think you need the gauze and you insert it and bite down. the swelling is normal. everyone i know looked like a chipmunk for a week, then comes the bruising and discoloration. stick to the warm salt water rinse... gently swish it in your mouth. my son was in so much pain for a whiole week. it was pretty bad. ouch.... i feel for you!

For me, the soreness wasn't extreme, yet in hassle-free terms a lingering soreness. It became unquestionably controlled with ibuprofen and ingesting soft meals. of direction, it is going to remember on your soreness tolerance...
