It depends on what you're looking for. There are techniques you can use on the paint to create a texture look. If you're looking to add actual texture you can feel you can try a venetian plaster look. It's a multi-step process, but very easy to do -- very hard to make a mistake.

Also, check out Home Depot. They carry the Ralph Lauren paint line which makes all kinds of paint additives for different textures -- like suede, sand, etc.

You can buy textured paint as well as paint that you can add powdered/sanded material to to give it texture. Then: there are textured rollers of different patterns..you can use a sponge to texture, wadded up newspaper, a trowel, even a wisk broom. It depends on the look you want. Most paint stores and paint departments in the Home Improvement stores can help you to decide
