My boyfriend and I just started dating and he broke up with his ex about two weeks ago. Now, she still pretends like they are still dating like she calls him up and messages him saying how much she loves him and cant wait to him next (they live a couple states away) and hes told her that their relationship is over but shes just avoiding it and pretending nothings happened. I think its because hes a really nice guy and the guy she dated before him was very abusive so shes kind of doesnt want to let him go and is the "obedient" type. I dont know what to do, because even if I mention to her that we are dating, she'll probably avoid that too. How can I/he get it through her thick skull?

Are you sure its definately over between them? He may be playing you and making you think that shes an annoying ex and all along he could be seeing the both of you! You need to tell you fella that he needs to be strong with this girl if it is defo over as being nice when someone who is head over heels is'nt going to work. She will always think there is a chance if he keeps being nice, i know as ive been trying to convince my sister for the past year that her ex is'nt coming back but as he was "nice" to her all through the breakup she still thinks he may change his mind! He has to be mean in order that she can stop loving him and start hating him. Unfortunately thats the only way these things work especially if she still feels so strong for him. I think if you get involved she will just see you as some girl that has taken him away from her and will just blame you!

He needs to break off communication with her, if he is still contacting her. That is only leading her on he should not answer calls from her or message her back if they are over. If she does not get a response from him then eventually she will move on.

He should let her know. He will need to say, "move on, I have!"
