I'm just looking back at some of the answers I've given to questions pertaining to the Roman Catholic church (which I grew up in) and realizing just how Catholic I sound when I answer them.

So is this proof that you can take the boy outta the Catholic but you can never take the Catholic outta the boy?

*chuckles* Oh, it doesn't bother me. In fact I find it deeply amusing more than anything.

Cultural indoctrination is something you can never completely remove, so I'm not worrying about it, just found it interesting.

*headthunks* the worst part is, I honestly hadn't expected the whole, "Come back to god!" response.

Ah well, no one's perfect.

Sorry people, there's no way I'll be going back to theism any time soon.

Carol M: The KJV and NKJV are so badly translated that most Biblical Scholars consider them invalid as reference materials.

If I wanted to read the Bible for some strange reason, I'd get a valid translation.

Adoptive: I too find the appalling misinformation to be ... well... appalling. Misinformation in general just sucks, especially when it breeds intolerance and bigotry and closed-mindedness.

Maybe I never thought about it this way, but I think you are right. I too, was raised Catholic. For years I did not go to church. When I started to become serious with my then girlfriend now wife, who is strict Catholic, I started to go back to church.

I do find that I answer questions here as a Catholic. Part of the reason is to combat the misunderstanding and outright misinformation in this section about Catholics, the Catholic Church and Catholicism.

When you are raised a certain way you will most likely have those thoughts and ideals for most or all of your life. You may not be Catholic anymore, but you are always going to have certain thoughts and ideals that were instilled on you in your childhood.

Also, just because you are familiar with the Catholic church and its policies, that doesn't necessarily mean that you that you still have a lot of "Catholic" in you.

You'll be alright.

That depends. Have you ever been to another church?
But yes it is true that usually if you grow up a christian or whatever religion you tend to go back to your roots even if you have lived a life that would contradict that. My husband grew up Baptist but he never took it seriously, he went out and partied and slept around and was almost the ********, womanizer that you could ever find. But when he grew up a bit, he started going back to church and he went to school for pastors and missionary's and now is one of the holiest men i have ever meet.

lol oh geeze JP

I guess so.

You gotta try and mingle with people who are very different and stay around them for a couple of years...and atheists isnt gonna cut it..

because atheism in the way you speak of exists a lot in the west..

come to the east...and sit among some "uneducated" bedoins and see how far more humane they are...or even "uneducated" villagers...

the humanity in these people will rob you of your words and leave you so speechless its amazing

Edit: *just read the come back to God answer* lmao

Your baptismal grace is still, and will always be with you. This is the Holy Spirit working on you beckoning you back to the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

Study the Word of God in the KJV Bible and He will straighten you out. I am a former Catholic and now a Christian. What you need to do is study the true Word of God daily. He will cleans you of your past and guide you in His light.

It takes a while to get over it. And it also means that you understand their point of view.
