I took 10mg of Prozac 2 days in a row (4 days ago) and haven't taken it since. It was prescribed for mild general anxiety. Since taking it, I now have severe anxiety, headaches, insomnia, viscious mood swings, and depression. I was told by the pharmacy that it has an 8 day half life (meaning that in 8 days, half of the medication will have worked its way out of my system). I am upping my water intake to about 2 liters a day to try and help flush it out. The pharmacy told me that once the medication is completely out of my system (in 16 days), that I will return to normal (thank God).

Can anyone suggest anything that might help with the flushing process? These side effects are awful. Thanks.

Just to clarify...I've never been put on an anti-depression med before...I'm not depressed, at least I wasn't before taking this medication. Depression is one of the mood swings I am now experiencing.

I was put on it for mild general anxiety caused by hormone fluxuations.

I noticed the jump in anxiety the first day and was told that it was "probably not the prozac", after taking it the second day...there was no question. It is without any question causing my spike in anxiety.

Call some natural healing places in you area and ask if they have a detoxifying foot bath. This will detox you from the meds. You may need to visit several times. It will help you immensely.

Good luck!

Two days and 10 mg of prozac? It is not the prozac that is making you feel the way you do. It takes at least 1 month before it even gets in your system. You need to breathe. Then make an appointment to see the doctor who prescribed it. 10mg is an extremely low dose. Good luck and try to relax.

Call the Doc who prescribed it - you should never go off an antidepressent abruptly. That is probably what messed you up. Is possible that the Dr. will put you on a different type of antidepressent or medication to get you off of this more easily i.e. wellbutrin or something easier on the system.
