Something you can put together before everyone gets there and just pop into the oven when company arrives. Look on the internet for "Nixon Chicken" - This is a company standby for me. It is really tasty comfort food and everyone raves about it. It was published many years ago by Pat Nixon in the newspaper as Richard Nixon's favorite recipe. I don't have the recipe handy, but have found it online.

If you are cooking for several people, make sure to keep it as simple as you can.

Steak (Filet), Baked Potato, Romaine Salad with a very generic viniagrette dressing and Rolls

I like doing steaks because it gives my husband something to do (and me one less thing to do!)

You could also do grilled Salmon with lemon and butter. If it's a more causal crowd, you could always go with Cornflake Chicken. It's always a winner.

Remember that with baked potatoes and salad, people can make it however they want with whatever fixings and you don't have to be worried about one large dish that not everyone likes.

What do they both like? Couldn't really answer this question without that.
If it were for myself and my mother in law it would be Cheese Enchiladas, which we both like a lot. In our case she is a big Chicken Fan and I'm not...I'm a big Beef/Steak Fan and she's not.

Lasagna would probably be safe for you but in my case I'm diabetic and pasta does wicked things to blood sugar.

So, I guess you would probably know what they both like and if it's something that the kids (if there are kids) don't like...Whip up a side dish of Spaghetti, Mac & Cheese, etc. to make them happy.

Either way they should appreciate you doing this for them...If not next year whip up Liver & Sardines for them...That is unless they like it.

A big roast in the crockpot. Put it on in the morning with a can of beef broth and all you have to do when you get home is make potatoes and gravy.Buy a bag of frozen vegetables that steam in the micro in the bag and a loaf of crusty bread.

Peppers and Steak for Crock Pot *makes 6 servings*
2 lbs lean round steak
2 green peppers, sliced
2 tablespoons minced dried onions
1 cup beef bouillon
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Cut steak into serving size portions (I do strips).
Place 1/2 the steak in crock pot.
Arrange green peppers on steak.
Place remaining steak on top.
Mix remaining ingredients together and pour over meat.
Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours or high 4-5 hours serve over white rice.

Pepper Steak - a Recipe to Kill, or Die, For! *makes 8 servings*
2 lb round steaks, sliced very thin
FOR MARINADE
8 tablespoons tamari soy sauce
8 tablespoons water
4 tablespoons red wine
8 tablespoons cornstarch
2 teaspoon brown sugar (or honey)
2 garlic clove, minced
2 dash ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon pepper (to taste)
8 green peppers, sliced lengthwise thinly
4 large onions, sliced lengthwise thinly
12 tablespoons safflower oil (for frying)
2 tablespoon water (for frying)
Marinate sliced round steak in soy sauce marinade for 1 hour.
Clean 8 peppers and 4 onions and slice lengthwise.
Fry peppers, onions and 1 tsp salt in 4 TBS safflower oil in a large skillet until tender.
Remove vegetables.
Add 8 TBS safflower oil and 2 TBS water to skillet and fry meat quickly.
Add vegetables and stir with spatula or wooden spoon, getting the good brown stuff off bottom of skillet.
Serve over cooked rice, on a roll or in a sub sandwich.
You can double the marinade ingredients if you want more sauce/goop -.
The wine helps the marinade absorb so well into the meat, yet you can't taste it at all.
