The Washington Post and other reliable news sources have reported that the medical care given to wounded troops at several rehab facilities is substandard. One cited is building 18, right across the street from Walter Reed Hospital. This facility is infested with mice and roaches, and the building is in a state of disrepair. Many troops are also being denied medical and financial benefits and their cases are stuck in the maze of bureaucratic red tape.

As of yesterday, no one from the Bush administration had expressed their outrage, nor did they take any measures to address this critical issue. After hearing this report, Barack Obama, along with a fellow Senator immediately drafted a bill to help these wounded troops. Today, of course, Bush, embarrassed by his inaction, is going through the motions and getting on the bandwagon—a day late and a dollar short. Instead of assuming the role as leader, he took a position as a caboose. So, tell me again how much he supports the troops?

Why should that surprise you?! Bush has done nothing to help Veterans since he came into office. The Veterans Administration under Bush is far underfunded and with the new Veterans coming home from Iraq and Afghanistan it can only get worse. The VA needs to be a non-political position so as not to suffer from the whims of an appointed chairman. Right now I have had three appeals filed with the VA and one is two years old. I am being told that the VA is shorthanded and I could wait atleast another year before my case comes up for a hearing. It is not a good situation and as I've stated, it will only get worse with the new Veterans coming home.

It's very obvious that those maimed and crippled soldiers are of no further use to Bush now. So, no wonder that Bush disregards them. They are Bush's broken toy soldiers, which he just threw away.

It is ironic that Barack Obama, who had been the most vocal in opposing the war right from the start, is the first person to act for the welfare of these wounded troops, while those same people who started this war are not doing anything at all. It's a shame to these people and all of those who support them.

This is less a question about Bush's leadership than a statement of your obvious dislike for our President. I am assuming you want a sounding board and yet another forum for bashing President Bush. Perhaps if the Democrat party had been more inclined to financially support our troops by providing much needed funding to health services and veteran's affairs, the hospitals would be in better conditions. But the Democrats, as I am sure you know, generally do not support increased funding for the military. This is a problem that began long before President Bush took office. That you would suggest that somehow he does not support our troops based on this Post report is ludicrous. The real question, if your concern is genuine, is this: How can the Democrat party claim to support our troops and simultaneously threaten to cut much needed funding to these brave men and women serving overseas?

First of all the situation is not as bad as the Washington Post depicts. The media sensationalizes these sort of things in order to push an agenda and increase ratings.

The fact is that injured US military personnel get some of the best medical care and rehabilitation in the world.

And the people who are to blame about the substandard housing for injured soldiers are the US taxpayers - who spent the 1990s cutting the military budget so there was no money to replace worn-out buildings.

And what have _you_ ever done for an injured servicemember?

I seriously doubt that Bush could personally give any wounded troops medical attention seeing that he is a busy man. I seriously doubt that Bush administration policy affects medical attention at all.
For the most part it is career beureacrats that are responsible for these problems. Who are 90% Democrats.

Funny that this conflict is seeing many troops survive wounds that would have been fatal in previous conflicts.
