The airport is about 30-45 minutes (depending upon traffic) to the historic, Sultanahmet area of Istanbul. Most of the major sites are in Sultanahmet, so you should stay in that general area.
I don't know what you mean by "reasonable" price, because that means different things to different people. But we stayed at HOTEL SARI KONAK in November. And LOVED it!
It's a small, charming, family-run hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet. They arranged taxi service for us, so it was convenient to get to/from the airport. They have very friendly staff (we even exchange emails). We could see the Blue Mosque from the rooftop terrace, enjoy a drink and read or play backgammon. We walked everywhere from there - and there's a really good restaurant two blocks away: Magnaura Cafe. Try the manti (Turkish ravioli-like pasta with yoghurt/mint sauce) - fabulous!!
Great reviews on Tripadvisor: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g293974-d295198-Reviews-Hotel_Sari_Konak-Istanbul.html
Take a walk to the spice bazaar - I actually liked it better than the grand bazaar. Interesting and fewer tourists and more local shoppers.

i don't know your budget but if you want to safety and more beautiful place, you should choose a hotel which is located in Beşiktaş.if you want to stay closer to visiting places, taksim is the best choice. -taxim hill hotel is one of the best place in taksim. -ceylan inter continental.i guess it's a little bit expensive but location and the hotel is great. -the marmara istanbul is located in the heart of taksim. all 3 hotels have some rooms which you can see a really good sea and bosphorus views.

Hello, from personal experience the booking.com works great as a reservation helper.
You can find good offers, reviews and ratings from guests (a great tool to decide based on other people bad or good experience).
I'm using it the last three years and I didn't have any problems. The hotels and the rooms were exactly as I red on site.
The maps also gives you an idea where the hotels reside.
The reservation process is easy and you don't need to pay with credit card. Enjoy your travel.

I arrived at Istanbul airport after midnight a few years ago. I asked the taki driver to take me to the Blue Mosque as I read there were cheap hotels there. Got a room for about a fiver a night - very basic but did the job. True raw Turkish atmosphere! If you want luxury, go to the Hilton.

I stayed in the Hotel Daphne, right in the middle of Sultanahmet. It is the historic district, so everything is within walking distance. If you go directly to their website and work with them as opposed to through Expedia or something, they give great deals! We ended up getting our room for half the cost of what it said on the website, and that included a free dinner and transfers to and from the airport.

Hello,
You can get GNU Backgammon for free from this link: http://bit.ly/1pUCT8a
it's a perfectly working link, no scam !
It?s true that if you search for computer games you can find all kinds. Some of these are quite appealing, and others aren?t, but you can still find programs that offer special and unique content; like when you used to play on those Sunday afternoons sitting down to the best board games. This is the case with GNU Backgammon, a game that will immediately transport you back to those good times.
Try it out

For atmosphere I recommend the Pera Palace. It's not the most luxurious but is comfortable, central and reasonably affordable. It's where Agatha Christie and others used to stay in the heydey of the Orient Express etc. Wonderful, an experience in itself!

You could try looking on www.tripadvisor.com (or it might be .co.uk) a brilliant website with honest reviews on hotels (you can search by hotel name or area). People who have stayed there review so it's usually more honest than the hotels own blurb. Hope you find something and have a great break.
