I am getting married on August 25th, but we can not find a minister. We are having the ceremony outdoors in Rockport Texas. We live in Wisconsin for now so we don't go to a church in Texas so it is hard to find someone to marry us. We are getting marrried there because my fiance is from Texas and all of our family is there. Any ideas?

Okay sorry let me add soething. I have asked my families churches. My sisters minister is old and in bad health and my brothers church you have got to e a member of. Southern Baptist Churches are funny that way.

call a justice of the peace, they will very often come to your location and perform the wedding, I have been to 2 different weddings of our friends who did this and it all worked out fine!

I would think you could ask your family that lives in the town you are getting married to look for a minister there. It is a lot easier than you trying to do it from Wisconsin. They may have a minister at their church or know someone to put you in contact with.
My dad is a minister, but Rockport is quite a ways from Dallas or I'd send my dad to you. Good luck with everything!

Yes, Southern Baptist churches are very "clickish" - all Baptist churches are really (I belong to a baptist church, I know). Anyway, believe it or not, you can check the local yellow pages in Texas or online at www.yellowpages.com. There are non-denominational ministers who "hire" themselves out for weddings, baptisms, etc. I went to a bridal show and there was a minister there, handing out cards for his services! I'm actually considering using him because my husband-to-be is Catholic - my minister sees us as a mixed couple because of the difference in religious preferences and of course I'm not Catholic so we can't marry in his church - just ridiculous! Anyway, congrats and good luck.

Your families' churches would be the best place to start. You don't have to be a member of a church to get married there, although connections like that do help.

If that doesn't pan out, then grab the phone book and start calling churches.

Check the phone book and ask around.
Also today people can get certified to marry people on the Internet.... if you can't find anyone pay for a friend or family member to do it.
