I put it in a bowl with cold water and change the water from time to time for a couple of hours or until the brains are thoroughly cleansed

Why would you EVER want to eat an animal brain? Have you never heard of scrapie? CJD? BSE?

Degenerative prions, that induce nasty and fatal illnesses in animals and humans, that lodge in animal brains (cows and sheep, and humans) are not killed by the temperatures of cooking. You should never eat brains or any other tissue from the nervous system of an animal if possible.
