I understand what harmony is, I just do not understand the theory of how it is built and put together.

singing harmony is rather easy. since you know the theory of singing harmony you should know that harmony notes are usually 3 notes above or below the melody line. until you get used to it, just start singing slowly. play a chord on the piano and try to find 'mi' and 'sol' of the chord. once you get used to hearing what it all sounds like it shouldn't be that hard to sing it in a song considering along with a melody line there's also a harmony line.

I am an artist, and i have been for about 9 years. the one thing i am really good at is harmony. i have always been able to pick up harmony out of the air.

one thing that really helps with it is listening down to the instruments. listen to the notes that they are playing, and sing the ones that the lead singer is not singing.

you learn to do something by doing it repeatedly in this case. listen to music with the harmony parts already there, and try and sing along with the person that is harmonizing instead of the lead.
