5 pounds over 3 months based on an hour of cardio is exactly what I would expect.
Its also sensible, maintainable weight loss. Congratulations, keep up the good work.
We're bombarded every day with ads for this pill and that machine making ridiculous claims about weight loss. These ads are made up by marketing guys whose job is to sell product, not to help anyone or tell the truth.
Some of them lie through their teeth until they get busted for fraud or sued.
Some of them are careful to tell the truth, but gloss over parts of the truth that don't make their product seem so spectacular.
"I'm a 49 yr old guy and I lost 38 pounds using ______ machine"
Well, yes, but the rest of the story probably is something like: "I also quit eating fast food and started running 10 miles a day"

When I first got married I gained 40 lbs! But a while ago I lost is all by doing thirty minutes a day cardio and dropping my calorie intake down to about 700 per day. Now, it did take me a while to eat that lttle amount and still be full. I was not starving myself at all. I ate high fiber cereal for breakfast, some salmon for lunch, and then another bowl of cereal for dinner. I also took a multivitamin twice a day and drank only water, and a lot of it. The high protein in the salmon gives you Omega-3's and pure enegy, not empty calories and a feeling like your starving like carbs can do. I was on birth control also, and once you take action, the weight should easily be lost. The myth that birth control makes you gain weight is unfounded. It also does not hinder your ability to lose it. IGNORE Krazychick6944's answer!!! Even your doctor will tell you cardio is the best way to lose weight, because you are burning calories from your entire body, I am proof of this!! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!!

Well, cardio is not really for losing weight. To lose weight, you have to things that really work your muscles, not your heart. You should definitely not cut down on eating, that's the worst thing you could do. Eat healthy, broiled or baked chicken or fish, vegetables, rices, and when you want something sweet, eat a rice cake. When you are done working out, you should feel exhausted. Your muscles should feel worked out, and you shouldn't be doing the same number of reps everyday. You should eventually up the number of reps you do, according to how long you need to work out to "feel the burn" I am on birth control as well, although it does affect certain people differently. I did experience a small amount of weight gain, but not enough to make a difference.
