My cat is about 6 months old and she licks me constantly...she will lick my hands and my face. When I try to sleep she wakes me up by licking my face. I dont mind it at all..i think it's her way of showing affection...this is the only cat that i have ever had that's done this. I was wondering if any of your cats do this...and why do you think they do it? thanks!

OMG yes! I have 3 cats and one of them is obsessed with licking! He licks my hair and kneads it in the middle of the night (he is now 4 years old) and he will lick your skin until you're raw! :) It is a way of showing affection and some are more obsessed with it than others. He and his brother (actual littermates) will lick each other for hours. Sort of mutual grooming. I think maybe my cat's looking for some return licks from me but all he's ever gonna get is a brushing. :)

Yeah my cat Duchess does that and shes about 2 i think. It actually gets annoying because u can only pet her when she wants to be petted if u go up to her and try to hold her shelll jump out of your arms. But then if she wants to be petted shell go over to you, you start petting her and when u stop she'll start licking you and if u take your hand away she'll find somewhere elese to lick it. But i love her anyways. I would just keep in mind that some people that r over at your house may not like it as much as u do, but of course thats no reason to stop your bonding! Plus your cat is probably just trying to get your attention! Or... nahhh i wont say,,, well u should hear this. She could be one of those jungle cats that lick there food to death before eating it so i'd be careful. Just Kidding!

It's the salt on your skin, I've had cats all my life...right now we have four and they all have done this.

Also if you have lotion or perfume on your skin they will try to lick that off as well.
It's a very normal behavior in a cat....most if not all cats will do it.

I have had cats my whole life and it is a way for them to show they love you. My kitten licks me and nibbles on my ears.

My youngest cat does it, she's showing her affection, and it could also be her way of telling you that she wants to play.

My 16yo cat does this to me too. She licks my other cat to clean her, so I figure she's cleaning me too.

Yeah, mine still does that. She also likes to suck on anything furry, like a blanket, sweater etc. She's a year old now and still does it...

they do lick but not that much, make sure you feat her well (lots of milk) coz she's young they also like to play, so it's normal.
