I have long thick hair and the same problem. If you are not an Afro-Person, you don't need hair-straighteners. Just a bit conditioner after washing the hair. Afterwards you just take all the half-wet half-dry hair together to a tail. That is important because otherwise the fan will dry the whole hair altogether and then all your efforts will be in vain. Every section has to be dried seperately. Take from this tail a small section after section until the end and fan it with a round brush, the biggest you find. There is one called Hercules, which has a wooden grip and a big hole where you curl your hair around. Thus you can fan the hair wrap even from inside. It is useful that you fasten the fan at some high place that you may just sit under the fan. So you have both hands free for combing and holding the hair and prevent aches. While combing, you straighten and polish every section while going with the brush from the beginning of the hair to it's ends. I would propose you hold the section straight away from the head. Then it is easier and your hair will have a good stand and is not gluing on the head so much afterwards. Your hair will be straight, shining and easy to comb and to style. It takes time, that's true but you will look really glamorous!

when you've just washed your hair put some hair serum in your hair i personally think that toni-guy or john freida do the best but loreal professional does some wicked products. Rub the serum between your palms and start at the ends working through, and use the left over on your top layers, then use a flat paddle brush to blow dry your hair layer by layer make sure the brush isn't a bristle brush or natural fibres because that will add static to the hair, using the concentraed nozzle blowdry down on the hair rather than across. does take a little while but if you have the time you can actually get your hair straight if you master it correctly. If you still have some flyaway hair spray your hair with heat spray (ghd can be a lttle greasy but good on thick or dry hair, or andrew collinge does a really light spray) then iron the hair layer by layer preferably a good quality straightner because some of the cheaper ones can frizz the hair because there not hot enough so if you have the funds ghd is the best, and a little bit of finishing serum you will have silky smooth hair!!!
i hope that helps

I have exactly the same prob - hair is really thick and I just want sleek hair. I'm sick of seeing all the 'Volumizing' products - where's the thinning ones?!
I find the best way is, after you've washed your hair, blow dry it holding the hairdryer above your head whilst brushing it down(can make your arm ache after a while) so that the hair cuticles are forced to lie flat.
If you go to the hair salon, you'll see they dry from above and in sections, so that the cuticle lies straight.
Then use straighteners. Although I have to get mine really hot to have any effect cos my hair is so thick.

I used to have the same problem with my hair:
1. Don't shampoo your hair everyday, what i do is only condition it on one day then the next day shampoo it and condition.
2. Towel dry your hair and put some straightener product in it
3. Use a round brush when blow-drying your hair start from the top of your head and work the brush down to the end.

use a straightener. They sell one for $50 at the Hair Cuttery that is a really good one and does not pull your hair out when you straighten. All the other ones at discount stores are peices of junk. I have same problem as you with volume and I have very long hair too and straigtening just makes it so much more manageable and pretty and soft even!

Blow dry with a flat panelled brush, always directing the flow of air down your hair as blow drying upwards will cause your hair to fluff up. I find that my hair looks sleeker if I blow dry my hair on a cool setting, which does take longer but the end result is worth the extra time. Use hair straighteners but always use heat protection serum so as not to damage the hair and finish off with smoothing balm.

My hair is strait and long too. shampoo your hair, then use a easy conditioner in hassle-free terms on the ends and rinse. comb out your hair, spritz throughout with a volumizing spray (yet don`t use too a lot!) then comb back. Then blow dry your hair. at an analogous time as blow drying, use a hair brush and brush your hair from below on the area you're drying, from root to tip. while your hair is dry, rub a pea sized quantity of shine serum interior the palm of your hands. Then pat onto the ends of your hair. in case you like a sprint greater advantageous physique, bypass the shine serum and use a huge barrel hair curler and curl the leads to sections, then comb by using including your arms. wish this facilitates!

When you blow dry use a round brush but instead of going under your hair for volume keep it on top of you hair. When done use a flat iron.
