We have an almost one year old boxer in the home. Of course he is a rambunctios puppy as expected but is loved to death. I am looking into getting a new puppy of a smaller breed, more than likely a bichon frise or a malte-poo. When he was younger he was around a family members malte-poo and played a little rough but that was expected. I am wondering if he will do okay with the new puppy as long as he is supervised when playing while the new pup is still small, or will this not be a good mix. Will I always have to guard the new puppy from him even we the new pup is older? Thanks for your help!!

Your boxer will learn the new pups limitations. of course keep it supervised (but when shouldnt you supervise a puppy?) - I have a boxer and she plays with shitzus and poodles fine. she runs alot with them instead of wrestling, if she has enough room. but dogs let each other know when they are playing too rough. you will be fine!

any dog a year old is still in play mode 24-7 but thats no problem, before you get the puppy start narrowing your training into whats going playing and whats to ruff. your dog might play really rough with you and then think its the same to play with a puppy that way. so you might just want to teach him when you say NO he backs off fast. but other than that your ready to add on another puppy you might even be surprised on how your boxer will react like a father or a mother in taking care of the pup. (that happen with my golden retriever and mini pincher) =] good luck

Boston Terriers are wonderful companions for Boxers. They have similar traits. I've never met a Boston who couldn't hold his own with a super playful Boxer.I'm afraid some smaller breeds are just too fragile for the rambunctous Boxer playfullness.

I accompanied 2 cats when I already had my Boxer and he became a pair years previous. He'd by no skill rather had any interplay with cats in the previous that so I basically had to spend time with him coaching him that the cats weren't toys and that he had to be delicate with them. he's superb. Boxers are exceptionally intelligent canines and that they study at as quickly as. they're additionally very, very playful nevertheless and that they have got a tendency to get tough while they're taking part in and there have been a pair circumstances he basically did a abdomen flop maximum appropriate on spectacular of the cat.... all basically attempting to play. he's basically a lot bigger, no do no longer forget that he became taking part in, i became nevertheless a sprint worried approximately him doing that. yet I corrected him while he's completed it and he's stopped. He sleeps and performs (gently) with the cat now all day long and that i by no skill rather see one without the different. you basically could desire to video exhibit them all the time on the commencing up and set obstacles so the canines is ordinary with of what's permitted and what isn't. additionally to be sure the canines would not get scratched interior the face. once you're specific no one's going to get harm, you do no longer could desire to split them anymore once you're no longer there. sturdy luck.

My cousin has a boxer, which my husband helped raise, and when we got a Puggle and brought him over they got along great. They play fight alot and it sounds as if one might hurt the other, but they don't and are perfectly happy together. In fact I think my little dog makes more noise and is meaner than the Boxer.

I don't reccomend having more than one dog at a time. What's the point? You can do more when you just have the one. I have 2 and I regret it.
