I would advise against getting married in the Dominican Republic because that would actually slow the process down. Have your boyfriend apply for Petition for Alien Fiance (Form I-129) available at www.uscis.org. The application should only take 6-9 months, whereas if you married in the DR the application for a spousal visa would take up to a year.

Depends on the INS and how quick the American embassy in the Dominican Republic are. For my wife and I, it took about 6 months between the time of sending in the necessary documents and her invitation to the US Embassy for her interview. Of Course, that was prior to the INS being inducted into the department of Homeland Security and all the immigration items currently being addressed, hence wait times may be longer these days.

Once her visit was done, the visa only took a few more days and then she was free to come to the US. Keep in mind, though, that with a fiancee visa, you must marry within 90 days of entering the US.

Bien suerte!

Right now the immigration service is really backlogged with cases. I would guess you are looking at maybe two (2) years before you are scheduled for you fiancee interview. This is where you will have to take a notebook full of documents and you will have to answer a lot of questions. Be patient, time flies.

It's going to take quite some time, my advice is for you guys to get married in DR just for the papers, this will speed up the process a lot since he will be applying for the papers for his wife, then you can plan celebration of the wedding
