This war will continue for the forseeable future. There is no way to "win" this war for us anyways. The Iraqi's can win their civil war if they can come to an understanding but I don't see that happening since all this is, is the Sunni's attacking Shiites because the Sunni's lost power. And the Shiites attacking Sunni's for the years of hell Sadam put them through. Plus they are all attacking us for getting in their way. The only way to "win" this war for us is to pull back and just train the Iraqi troops while providing intelligence and support where needed. Its time for the Iraqi gov. to stand on its own two feet and take back their country.

I'm sorry about your son. The problem is what is considered victory. Those people have been fighting over religious differences longer than the United States has existed. I find it difficult to believe that the Bush administration really thought that a democratic government would solve a religious issue. It's also hard to fathom the theory about oil when one considers how much oil we could have bought for the trillion dollars this is going to cost. So what was the real objective? Find that out and you'll know what victory means.

I am sorry for the loss you have suffered, and I thank you and your family for your service to our country, but I would think that if we pulled out of Iraq before the job was done, then your son would have died in vain. What would be the purpose of going into Iraq just to get several thousand American killed and then running back home. To keep the loss of these brave soldiers from being in vain, we MUST see that the job is finished. While I agree that throwing more bodies into the grinder year after year is not what we need to do, so quitting before victory is also not an option. We need to get in there and win this thing. No retreat, no status quo, but on to victory.

Sorry to hear about your son The only real victory in Iraq is when we finally let Iraq run it's own country and remove all of our troops from that country Unfortunately Bush has no plans on doing that while he remains in office

First of all I am so sorry. May your faith tide you through this painful time.

What is there to win exactly? Iraq is a poor country, that went from dicatorship to US occupation. One problem after the other. Daily, civilians die. Bush achieved absolutely nothing invading Iraq. We should have just tried to secretly eliminate Saddam Hussein or something. We have the CIA, master conniver... couldn't they have cooked up a plan? Legends of CIA abound in India (people here believe they were responsible for Indira Gandhi's assassination, though nothing has been conclusively proven.)

Your son's death has profound significance on a personal level. It was his destiny. Keep strength and the future will hopefully help you understand.

I am sorry for the loss of your son. You have to realize something - if we pull out of Iraq don't finish the job then your son did die in vain. He sacrificed his life for the greater good of mankind - to secure the future of any other children you may have or grandchildren. He helped insure their freedom & safety! God Bless!

I hope this will all change in 2008 when we get a new president. I'm sorry about your son's death in Iraq. It shouldn't have happened. But he did it because he believed in our country and wanted to defend it. Whether or not it was justified, he did the right thing.

No soldier dies in vain. We will honor his memory forever. You can agree or disagree with the war but all of us choose to serve. I'm sorry for your loss.

we probably wont ever leave iraq, we will probably have bases there like we do in every country with conflict. hell, we still have troops in korea across the DMZ, and they have been stationed there since the korean "war" in the 50's.
