The scoop...My cat had only one kitten its now been over 24 hrs and no other babies have been born. Of course the vet wants me to bring her in but I dont have an extra $500 stting around for that. I know that sounds horriable but u cant get blood out of a turnip. ..Anyway when she had her first baby I moved her which later on I heard was a bad thing to do so now im scared i caused the other babies from being born. Also I have heard that another kitten can be born like days later is this true??

First "litters" are typically very small. Nature will take it's course since you can't get her to the vet (I think it's just criminal the way people are being overcharged by veterinarians nowadays!!) and if there is another one in there, her body will push it out.

Our cat BINK! was born two days after the rest of the kitties in the litter and other than being slightly dumb, he's healthy and lots of fun...hours of entertainment from that one for sure...He came out a ragdoll and none of the other kitties or even the mother had long hair so he might have had a different daddy than the rest. It is possible for more than one male to impregnante a female cat...if that happens the kittens can be born up to several days apart.

It's alright to move mama since she trusts you and it didn't scare her into retaining those other babies if there's any in there.

Chances are she only had one though....and that's all she's going to have. That's pretty cool though because since she had just one baby, the chances of you being able to keep it should be greater than if she would have had a whole bunch!

A kitten can be born days later....but usually dead. Moving a mother (if she trusts you) doesn't really do any harm.

I would definately bring her in, an Ultrasound is an easy way to determine if there is more kittens. Plus it is cheaper and safer for the mother to take out other kittens now than later.

If they are kittens inside of her and are dead (by now they probably will be) they will start rotting and she will get an infection. If she doesn't pass the dead kittens before they start rotting, she will get extreme infections and die without the more expensive route of long term antibiotics and surgery.

Once a momma cat has started birthing then you never ever move her. Is the one kitten healthy? Is it nursing? Are you sure there are more kittens? If you wait to long and there are more kittens..they will most likely die, or are already dead. Check around to different vets and animal hospitals. Sometimes they have funds for people who cannot afford pricey pet care.

Don't worry so much. Your cat knows you are upset and she feels upset. Try your best to relax. If your cat is really close to you I wouldn't worry about moving her. If when you are petting her let your hand rest on her belly to see if there is movement. If there isn't movement, I would believe her to be done. It is not unusual to have just one kitten. You just don't hear about it, because it doesn't have the WOW factor like a litter of 10 would. Please try and relax and keep an eye on her and I believe things will be fine. I will keep you and your pet in my prayers.

have you tried feeling her belly to see if there are actually any more in there? My aunts dog just had a 1 puppy litter and well everyone was freaked out, but the puppy was HUGE, we rushed to the vet and low and behold she just was supposed to have one puppy. And yes they can go long periods between delivery but I don't know about one being born days later, That's a good question.

Sometimes thye do only have one, but its quite unusual. See if you can get help through a cat charity, they may check her up at a lower cost

you should have waited another week or two, but yes, she will quickly realize they are gone and move on. mom knows her kittens will leave her, but not until they are ready, they were not ready. kittens that are taken, or die, before they are weaned can be a problem. mom can call for them for months. also, all moms bark that order, when they want them. and the playing and hugging is mom teaching them. the hug is usually mom restraining then for a bath. it also teaching who is in charge. the playing is mom teaching them self defense and hunting. mom teaches them everything.

Was she young herself? My neighbor's cat did the same thing and both are fine.
