Hey Jeff, me too

I replaced the coil the ECU and I don't know what else. the green red stripe wire (i think) had a short in it right at the coil plug. It is so close to the engine block (2.5L) and gets so hot. The little wire doesn't have much to protect it. I backed the pins out of the connector & cut out the bad section and installed some connector pins that I got from autozone for about 2 bucks. It worked beautifully then. Some of the time it would get fire (because of the short) and I would think that it was a fuel prob.

I might add that i loaded the thing up on a trailer and had an electrical shop check it out 3 days in the shop and they couldn't figure it out either. Dang I'm smart, lol.

Had the same problem. It turned out to be a short in the coil plug! Not the coil.

I blew 300 bucks before that was short was found.

Good luck and I hope thats it!

Usually this type of problem is distributor related and is a faulty pick up coil sometimes called a hall effect switch. Good luck and hope this fixes the problem.

there is a sensor on the back of the motor called the engine speed sensor and that is most likely your problem.
