There's this really cute boy at my school. He's athletic, popular, etc. I've liked him since we were in 9th grade, but I never told him because he used to go with one of my best friends. Now, we're seniors and on Feb. 3, he told me how much he likes me. We started talking on the phone and we've talked every night since then. He's sooo perfect!! Except one thing. There's this rumor that's been going on since last year that he's gay. I don't know if I believe it or not. All I know is that until I find out, I'm gonna hold my feelings back. But i really wanna know. 'Cause if he's gay, then I'm wasting my time trying to form a serious relationship with him. Waiting on him to say something isn't working. I need to know now because my feelings are getting stronger by the day. Should I ask him?

No...if you ask him if he is gay, you not only have blown any chance of hooking up with him, he is likely not even going to want to keep you as a friend.
He has told you he likes you and talks to you on the phone every night are pretty good indicators that he likes you...if you would rather pay attention to stupid rumors than trust your own instincts, then you don't deserve him!

You might could just ask him where you stand with him, are you just friends or does he want more. If you come out and ask him if he's gay, it implies that you think he is and that could turn the tables for you if he isn't. Does he date, have any ex-girlfriends, etc? I don't hold any faith in rumors. If you've known him for a couple of years, you should already know the answer to this question, as most people don't hide their sexuality anymore.

If he dated your friend and told you he likes you, I don't think he's gay. If you feel there is an attraction between you and you like him- you should spend some time with him and see where it goes.
Rumors are usually lies started by jealous people - if he is popular and athletic, lots of people could be jealous, right?

In high school there are rumors about everybody. If this guy told you he likes you, he probably like girls. Keep in mind, if this guy is "perfect" he's probably got a lot of haters who're jealous. High school is a petty and juvenile experience.

Unless you have something to confirm the rumors...like asking him...then go for it, girl. He may have been appearing gay but your sweet loving may be the thing that makes him become a confirmed hetro.

You could, but you could jeopardize your relation with him if he is not. Straight men take a big offense if you question their sexuality.
Perhaps you could say something like; 'I have heard this silly roamer that you are gay... Isn't that a gas!
Then you can assess his reaction and that should tell you.

if you're desperate to know, start slow, like broaching the subject of homosexuality. observe his reaction to it. after that, you can continue to probe a bit at a time. go easy. if he isn't homosexual, you don't want to spoil you chances just because you heard a rumour.

yeah, ask him if you want him to not like you anymore. there's nothing worse to a guy than getting accused of being gay.. if he told you he likes you then he's straight, grow up
