Because they are missing the CHRIST in CHRISTianity. The teachings are very similar, and the Quaran mentions Jesus and his followers as like-minded individuals, but thats it. There are enough differences that it is a seperate religion. One of the big things is that Christians know the bible was written by man, whereas in Islam the Quaran is written by God, hence its power, holiness and infallibility. Supposedly.

Why is Christianity not a sect of Judaism?
Islam is a bit different, In Islam God has no children, and Jesus is not God, God is only one, not a trinity.

First off Christianity is a relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, not a religion. To have a relationship with Jesus Christ one must accept His teachings and His gift of salvation and know that Jesus Christ is God Almighty, and that He is our Savior. Islam does not do that. They look at Jesus as merely as a prophet and that is all. Jesus Christ is much more then a prophet. He is the creator of all,He is our Lord and Savior.

Islam is based on the worship of Mohammed and Christianity is based on Christ, the Son of God. Christ says to love everyone and even pray for those who would harm you. Islam says it's ok to kill anyone who is not a believer in Islam. Doesn't sound to me like these teachings come from the same God. .

“Know thou assuredly that the essence of all the Prophets of God is one and the same. Their unity is absolute. God, the Creator, saith: There is no distinction whatsoever among the Bearers of My Message. They all have but one purpose; their secret is the same secret. To prefer one in honor to another, to exalt certain ones above the rest, is in no wise to be permitted. Every true Prophet hath regarded His Message as fundamentally the same as the Revelation of every other Prophet gone before Him. …
The measure of the revelation of the Prophets of God in this world, however, must differ. Each and every one of them hath been the Bearer of a distinct Message, and hath been commissioned to reveal Himself through specific acts. It is for this reason that they appear to vary in their greatness. …
… God’s purpose in sending His Prophets unto men is twofold. The first is to liberate the children of men from the darkness of ignorance, and guide them to the light of true understanding. The second is to ensure the peace and tranquility of mankind, and provide all the means by which they can be established. …”

they were BOTH the same, but after Christians corrupted their religion they left some true facts without corruption, and that's why there are similarities between Christianity and Islam.
