lent begins today Ash wednesday, and lasts until good Friday I believe. You are supposed to fast, but not really that vigorously. Lots of people just give up meats on Fridays, other people give up something else for this period

let starts today, which is ash wednesday and goes untill holy saturday (the day before easter). You're supposed to stop eating meat, some churches are more lax on this rule and have limited it to you can eat meat everyday but ash wednesday and fridays, and you're supposed to give up something. Like stop eating choclate, stop smoking, something that isn't easy. It's to symbolize Jesus spending 40 days in the desert, and all the other bibilcal events that lasted 40 days. Also you're supposed to reflect on yourself and other acts of penence. It's impossible to give you one answer for this question since almost every church does it a little different, but thats the general idea.

Lent is the 40 days preceeding Easter (this year April 8th). It begins on Ash Wednesday, which is today. It's a time of prayer, fasting, and alms giving in preparation for the celebration of Easter.

Starts today on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter. Give up one thing you most treasure for the period above. Most people I know give up pop or sweets.

It is not biblical and it is demeaning to what Jesus did.

If you can abstain from sin for "lent" then you should abstain from it all of the time.
