Someone I know has been driving around with tags that expired in July of 06. She refuses to update them. How can I report her expired tags? I live in Florida (Pasco county).

The problem is that law enforcement work with a system of priorities. An expired tag is not as important as the call for help in domestic violence etc.

In this case, an expired tag IS a violation and certainly offensive to those who pay the required fees to operate their vehicles legally.

To report the violation make a telephone call to the local police with a description of the vehicle and location. If a patrol officer observes the violation, he will issue a citation.

The officer MUST see the vehicle upon the roadway before he can issue a ticket. If the car is on private property and not being driven...there is nothing that can be done until the car is back on the roadway.

You may also consider filing a complaint yourself. I would suggest you talk to your local district attorney's office for guidence on this method of taking action!

Best wishes!

To everyone chastising this person for wanting to report the expired tags: shame on you! You have no idea what the circumstances was surrounding this situation. Maybe you are all lucky enough to live near people who actually believe that the laws were written for them too, sadly some people don t! Perhaps this is one of those situations. I live next to a guy who is illegally squatting in a house that he doesn t own and he has expired tags on the vehicle he is driving that he ALSO doesn t own! Highly doubtful that the car is insured and I wouldn t be surprised at all if the guy wasn t licensed to drive. So not only is he not paying his fair share to be on the road, he s also breaking the law in several ways AND most of all he s a danger to everyone around him. This guy has quite a record (lots of driving violations and breaks the law every single day in some way shape or form and he is the EXACT type of person a "busy body" would and should have every right to report. There are probably instances like this all over the country so stop your uneducated judging!

Why would you go out of your way to report a minor violations such as this? If she is driving around an officer will eventually stop her. Even if you report officers are not going to waste their time with a minor violation when there are more important crimes going on. If I got that call I would stop her and warn her to get it fixed and refuse to write the ticket because some busy body is wasting our time with minor stuff.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net that has been around since 1995.

It sounds like yes, you were reported, and yes, they responded. A police officer who has stopped you for a valid reason can ask to search your car. When you said no, you clearly confused/scared him a little, and he called for backup. Upon arrival, the sheriff probably informed the cop that your 'permit' was in fact a license, your tags were indeed on the way, and yes, he had screwed up, and wanted to get you out of there before you made a scene out of his mistake. Hope that helps!

If you know her schedule, call the police and tell them (anonymously if you want) that you know that this person leaves their house at such and such a time everyday to go to work. If officers have time they will try to stop her. There isn't much we can do with expired tags if they are on a vehicle in someone's driveway.

You must not like this person.
If you report them I promise you they are not going to start searching the streets for a certain car with expired tags, even if you know their name and drivers license number.
My advice is to stop seeking revenge or whatever your motivation is, and leave it alone. Eventually, they will be seen and stopped by an officer and get a ticket.

Do you have a vendetta against this person?

Save your strength and redirect your energy in a more positive direction.
Don't worry, those expired tags will eventually be seen by law enforcement.
