if my child asks me if they can go over a friend's house and I don't let them go, did I leave their request unanswered?
sometimes what we ask for doesn't fit in with God's plan, regardless of our motivation.
I'll never argue with anyone that says that prayer has a placebo effect.

If you cannot get past prayer, you are never gonna get gold stars in Sunday School!
Can we understand God? No. Can we strive with our maker No.
Should we expect every prayer to work, No. Simple as that.

I prayed that Ted Haggard would stop forming his mouth into that O shape all the time when he speaks. Did you notice how he does that? I can't figure out how his mouth got so accustomed to settling into that strange O shape when he isn't making an O sound. It's very distracting.
Anyway, wasn't answered.

Once again my friend, God answers all prayers. Sometimes the answer is no.

Just about every prayer for world peace goes unanswered.
And I think every time a Christian prays for me, or for any non-Christian I know, seems to backfire, too. In my case, it gets me thinking more and more like an atheist.

Prayers do not work by themselves. First of all you should never lose faith in Allah and secondly "God helps those who help themselves"

I prayed that poor Ann Coulter's Adam's apple would disappear. It's still there.

Back when I was young and foolish I prayed that God would end starvation in Ethiopia. 20 years later and he still hasn't got around to it.

In Islam, Prayer isn't always answered, however you still get merit for it on judgement day.
God doesn't say that he'll always answer us.
