What a bag of crap the above answers are. He needs a FIANCE visa and must approach a British Consulate or Embassy in the USA to get one. If he tries to enter without a visa as just a visitor then:
1) If he gets caught out he will be refused entry.
2) Without the correct entry conditions he will be unable to get permission to marry within the UK.

Get the visa, travel to UK, get married (within the validity of the visa), apply to the Home Office for Leave to Remain as a Spouse of a British Citizen (a term of leave that is valid for two years and grants permission to work). A fiance/fiancee landing does not entitle the holder to work in the UK.

This IS the correct answer.

I have worked for the UK Immigration Service for 15 years and I used to routinely refuse entry to people who thought they could sneak in on a visit permission when their real intention was to marry.

Sometimes people can come to the UK on a holiday visa to visit first. A fiance visa can be applied for, but I think that is with the intention of getting married. However, if you married in the US, you could apply for a spousal visa to come to the UK at a British consulate in America. I know there is one in Chicago.

You need to contact the Home Office and see what forms you will need for an application for him to have a temporary or permanent residence in UK, as well as working permit.

Use attorneys as much as a threat, if skint CAB are incredibly reliable.

Fianceé is a woman. You probably mean fiancé.
He goes to the airport and catches a plane...............
Worry about 'documentation and papers' once he is in the UK.
Everybody does that, why shouldn't he?
