do a test strand, if you are worried about the outcome, near the nape of the neck is the best, if you like the results, the go for it. You could also go with a shampoo with temporary tint to it, it will last until the next washing.
Just to let you know the pigment red is the fastest to fade, so sad when you get that vibrant red and it faids away. If you are going to do color i would recommend a color safe shampoo and conditioner. This will extend the life of your color.
Blessings!

Brown hair should take to red ok. Try a light to medium auburn. You will have warm brown hair with a lot of red highlights which will look natural. It would be best to go to a hair dresser for good advice with your hair the first time you color it.

It sound to me like you just want to add red highlights to your hair. Any time the hair is tinted with a peroxide color...the hair is "lightened" and then the color goes into that space. Most times the color that is deposited washes out...that leave the hair with the color that it was lifted to. I suggest you use a temporary color such as Redken EQ which only deposits..then when the color washes out you still have your own color...also if you don't like it you don't have to wait for it to grow OUT . Another interesting idea is to have your hair foiled with red highlights. It is not cheap but it is special! Good luck!

Lighter hair will yeild a brighter result. Your sister's misfortune stemmed from a vibrant color being placed over light hair and/or the color selection was not ideal for her skin tone, desired level...etc. If you want to richen your natural hair with red tones, I suggest selecting a color at or one level darken than your natural color. Chose semi-permanent hair color with warm or red tones. If you are still unsure, do a test strand. Snip a small section of hair from your nape area, apply the color to the section, process as per the product specifications. If you like the result go forward with the rest of your hair.

If you are uncertain, I would recommend starting with highlights. Red is beautiful but it is the hardest color to remove if you don't like it! Also, go to a professional ESPECIALLY if you want to go red. If you use boxed hair color it will no doubt turn orange and/or brassy.

Trust me, I was so into getting my hair coloured red for my bday and nobody could have convinced me not to. Yes it did go orange and it has been nearly half a year after I dyed it and it is still neon orange. I hate it and it is embarassing. I will not make the same mistake twice. Please don't do it as well! Please! Listen to me!

Sure, why not! I did. Life it too short. Just pick the right red for your skin tone. It's onoly dye, so if you hate it, you can always redye it and hair grows. Have fun! :)

Yes, but go to a professional if you're blonde. It will turn orange if you don't let a pro do it for you.
