I am 17 and have been dating a 21 year old man for 7 months. I made a HUGE mistake in not telling my parents becuase 1) i was scared of what they would say and 2) I didn't think the relationship would last. Now I am head over heels in love with this man, and I want to tell my parents. However, I'm really scared to how they'll react. Any advice on how to approach them? I was thinking of tellimg my mom first and seperatly. ??

Y do you think you are scared? You should know what kind of expectation your parents have for you. If you know of any reason you parents might not agree, try talking to your boyfriend and retify it. Try to talk to your parents together. Dont separate them. Tell them how you feel and also get their opinion. Arrange for a dinner or something and let your parents meet him and get to know him. Let them judge him after meeting him. All the best gurl!

Well, they're going to be ticked no matter what, because you've been keeping something from them. The age difference between 17 and 21 is not so very wide in terms of actual years, but the experiences that a 21 year old have far outweigh yours -- that's what's going to upset your parents.

At 17, at least they don't have recourse into statuatory laws to penalize your boyfriend (or shouldn't, always know your local laws on that stuff) -- but you need to realize the protective instincts will kick in, hard, and be prepared. You're going to need to justify why you haven't told them anything, perhaps be accused of lying and sneaking and many other angry things. Take it in stride as best you can, because you'll have to weather the angry/protective first response before the discussion can start.

If you think that telling one parent separately will help, that's a valid way to start. But it's going to involve both parents in the end, and maybe him, so make sure he's on board for the bumpy ride. It will be a relationship test to see if you two weather the storm of talking to your parents about the choice.

I wish you good luck.

Well it's not that much of a big age difference I mean when I was 17 I was dating a 25 year old and I was scared to tell my peps but I knew that I had to tell them if I wanted to be in a relationship with him also I will feel better if I tell them because I would not have to hide him again now we are married and have a son togehter but go to them calm and just tell them if they yell at you don't argue back you will make it worst but always remember that they can't stop you from seeing him you will be 18 soon no matter what they say at least you told them but let them know that that's your choice also they will trust you more because you came and told them before they found out or if you want to lie a little bit just tell them he's 18 and wait until your 18 and tell them he's 21or whatever age but it's best not to lie

first things first... ask your bf if he would like 2 take your parents out to dinner just the 4 of u. tell ur parents that you would like them to come so they can meet the man you have been seeing for 7 months. do not tell them the age difference at first wait for the end of the night.. dont forget age is just a number!

if you are going to be 18 soon.. then wait till u are 18.. then you are a legal adult. but as far as age differences, thats no problem.. you can always tell them he is 18 or 19 for the time being..

Wait until you are 18 to tell them.

Well, tell them later, or wait as long as you can without having them know if you really want to hang onto him.

Let them get the shock as early as possible.
