Yes, any exercise burns off calories.
So the more you use dumbells, the more calories you burn off.
The more calories you burn off, the more weight you lose.

Weights build muscle. Muscle burns fat when working (exercising, etc.) The more muscle, the bigger burning fat potential there is.
Cardio exercise is what gets your heart beat up, thus your metabolism rises. The more time and or intensity in the cardio work out, the bigger the need for energy = burning fat, (and other energy sources).
Weights may aid in burning calories in a indirect way by building muscle.
Cardio is the metabolism raiser, so you need to do a little of both to be very efficient in your efforts.
Or lifts weights in a way that gets your heart rate and metabolism up for at least 30 minutes twice a week.
A good alternative is to do some weight exercise, then do jumping jacks, then back again to another weight exercise, and then some rope skipping, back to some weight exercise, and then, running on the spot, back to weights.....
Adjust the weights and the intensity 8and minutes) devoted to the cardio exercises, as to be able to do your whole routine.

If you exercise properly with them they will burn up calories. You should aim for light weight and increase the repetitions. If you go for heavier weights you may build up muscle which is heavier than fat. Light weights and lots of reps is good . Any exercise which helps to burn up calories can help you to lose weight and re-shape. You don't have to go out jogging or running. Walking is good and it's free - less injuries than running. Good luck!!

No.
To burn calories you need to perform continuous work that elevates your heart rate significantly
If you have any doubts, wear a heart rate monitor while using dumbells, then compare the average number to what you get while running.

Using light weights and doing high repetition will definitely increase your calory burning, tone muscle and lose weight. But if you use heavy weights and low reps, you are less likely to lose weight but more likely to build muscle.

Indirectly, by building muscle that will help burn calories faster. But you would get better results by adding walking or running, and cardio.
