i have been getting dry skin on my hands for 3-4 days and i try to cure it by using bath and body works lotions but sometimes that doesn't help b/c it gets dry again. i want to know what causes the dry skin. i heard that washing your hands too much does it right and maybe the cold weather or something? what can i do and what kinds of lotions do u recommend best for dry skin?

The only way to properly combat dry skin is to hydrate it with lotions RIGHT after you wash. The moisture from the shower and/or handwashing is what needs to get "locked in" to your skin with lotions or moisturizers. If your skin is dry and not hydrated, no amount of lotion is going to soothe it. Try applying your lotion to a freshly dried body and you'll see a HUGE difference.
A good cream to try is Eucerin in a tub, it's thick and can be used anywhere on your body including your face.

The biggest reason is probably the cold weather. Cold air cannot hold much moisture. This makes the air dry. The dry air makes your hands dry.

Washing your hands also dries your skin. Soap and water washes away the natural oil that your skin produces.

in the winter i get extremely dry feet and elbows. I just bought some jergens ultra healing lotion and it works phenomenal. The first day I put it on like three times that day, and now I put it on everyday after I shower and it seems to be keeping everything in check. You should definately give it a try.

Because dry skin has low levels of oil and insufficient moisture.Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and use a face pack of ripe bananas and honey. You can find more cheap, effective and natural home remedies for dry skin at the link below.

I have ezema. Really bad. Drink more water. I haven't found anything that is a permanent solution yet. Just keep trying different hand creams until you find the right one. Stress also cause's dry skin.

don't use harsh soap...the antibacterial ones. they tend to dry ur skin. try soaking ur hands in warm water or milk, then after few minutes, wrap ur hand in moist, warm towel. after that, u can use moisturizers.
