His energy level is good and he's peeing as much as he usually does. There's no change in temperament and no sign of discharge. He was fixed years ago. He's eating as voraciously as always. His urine is the normal colour and he doesn't seem to be having difficulty peeing. It's been going on for 3 days now, and he gets 4 or 5 walks a day.

it could be a bacterial infection. My dog did that, and he had an infection Inside the sheath. We had to antibac. wash his male part with speical soap and gave him a oral rx.

So just talk to the vet. Best wishes.

My dog does the same thing only washes her feet also. I tell her to stop and she does. She seems normal in every way too. maybe we just have clean animals. All dogs lick themselves.I wouldn't worry to much about it.

Why does a dog lick himself? because he can.

But seriously, it may be because the movement from walking causes itching or discomfort. Perhaps he has a urinary tract infection. take him to the vet
