Hard question

1) There are cultural and historical preferences involved. What is fashionable in a certain time and age, could change in another. We are all familiar with the round women Rembrand painted as beauty models. In the 1920, breastless skiny women where the beauty icon, nothing to do with the bodyies of the 1950 or with Pamelas Andreson´s looks.

Also some culturs find attractive and what we should look like different from others. There are many examples in history: The baldness of women in ancient Egypt is not what any women would consider super sexy today. Ancient Chinese distorted little feet in women, and so on. (Same with the male icon of beauty and health)

2) Medicine and science since the begginging of their history also had their ideas about healthy looks and sizes.
Today we have standars that take into consideration the diferences between races, gender, according to age.
Index like the body mass index, or the Broca index, (how many centimeters are you over de meter, minus 10% should be your "ideal" weight) are some scales we use today. The BMI is not very accurate in many cases as not all weight is fat, muscle weight distort the scale´s measurements.
The Broca index tends to be on the skinny size and it does not consider age, a factor that is a must to consider both in weight and size.
There are other indexes and scales, all are good for some purpose but err on others. Depending on what you want, the scale that should be used, knowing it is not exact science.

3) Fashion, movies, publicity, etc. etc. also pick beauty or health models accordingly to their tends and needs. Sun burn skin was and still is consider very sexy and nice, but as we learn about sun effects on skin cancer, etc. a twist to a more pale look is gaining back the favor of plenty.

In a personal view point, it is us that have a lot to say about how we look and specially how happy we are with ourselfs! Accepting what we are and working to become as healthy as we reasonably can is a personal responsability and choice, but it has to be in accordance with our age, body type, genetics, and life demands.

We have the last word, so in a way, we decide in our small little world. (But it is the one we have, and the most important of them all)

There is no one perfect size and weight, because everyone has different preferences and people come in all different shapes and sizes.

I might say a size 6-8 (UK size 10-12) is perfect and someone else might say a size 2-4 (UK size 6-8) is perfect. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that..........

HTH : )

You decide what is the perfect size and weight for yourself. There are government health guidlines to help you keep within a healthy weight range using a BMI scale. If your happy with your weight and size and feel in proportion, then be happy and maintain it.

There is no perfect size and weight. It depends on our gender, height, etc etc etc.

We ourselves should decide. As long as we aren't really overweight or underweight it shouldn't really matter.

Magazines like heat don't help. Every week its 'they are too thin' then the next week 'they are too fat'

I've stopped buying these pointless magazines.
