For a house cat - six months is the standard time to have them spayed. For a cat that lives outdoors they may go into heat sooner - as soon as four to five months old.
Your cat may very well be in heat. You have a couple of different options. Most vets charge a substantional amount extra to spay a female in heat. Anywhere to $50-150 extra. You can have her spayed now - if you can't take it. Or you can wait till she passes out of heat. You should be warned however that some cats - even young ones - don't leave heat until they have mated.
Some vets offer hormone therapy. You can start kitty out on basically birth control pills for cats and that will help her leave heat. Then she can be spayed safely.
It's up to you - and sometimes it depends on the size of the cat. I had one so small - a munckin breed - that the vet wanted to wait until 8 months to spay her, because of her tiny size. She's still only 3lbs. But for normal size cats - spaying at 6 months is just fine.
*edit*
Also wanted to add - do not gauge heat by whether or not there is signs of blood. Cats very RARELY have the same type of period as humans etc. There is almost no blood - so spotting is not a good indicatoro of heat. Yowling, assuming a mating postion, walking with her rear in the air - are all good indicators. She is very uncomfortable and spaying will help her out immensely if she is not going to be used for breeding.

Yes, it's very possible; that's just about the right age for a female cat to go into heat the first time. If you don't want kittens on your hands (not to mention over-taxing the system of so young a cat), it's a good time to go ahead and get her spayed.

It's very possible, my youngest is 5 months, and she started to go into heat, because she can smell the male cat 2 doors over... If there are other unaltered cats around, this gets them into heat earlier. If she cries a lot, and has her tail up most of the time, then she's in heat.

Yes, it's very possible.
A kitten of that age could very easily get pregnant.
The kitten needs to be spayed ASAP.
Spaying can be done much earlier than 6 months.

Yes, that's possible. If you see a discharge from the kitty and notice "spotting" on your clothes and furniture (red bloody stains) then your kitty is in heat and you'll have every tomcat in the neighborhood hanging around your house !!

They can start as young as 4 months old. Please get her spayed for it is very uncomfortable for them and it is much healthier if you get them fixed.
Do you realize that for every 1 person born, there are 7 puppies and kittens
born? At best, 1 will find a forever home.
And don't forget, that every "Free-to-good-home" litter takes homes away
from animals already at the shelter.
STOP letting your pets; or your friends, relatives or co-workers pets
contribute to the problem.
If you love animals, it is NOT ENOUGH to merely say "My pets are fixed".
Vow to educate and enable others to fix their pets too.
Spaying just 1 female dog or cat, will prevent 6 others from ending up in a
shelter the following year.
Please be part of the solution, NOT the problem!
Thank you. ^..^
